Nah not just one company. Reddit, Twitter, basically every social media, streaming services, every site adding stupid ads and auto playing videos, etc. It all adds up

I used to watch Russell Brand's YouTube channel but it started to get too "radically centrist". I started watching other videos critiquing his content as a grift and yeah, it doesn't surprise me to see TC on there. I am a bit curious just how much Brand calls him out but I'm sure it's not very much. He's just a Rogan wannabe now.
Meh, while I totally get what you're saying I think there's something to be said about these stepping stones between dying closed source platforms and developing FOSS platforms. Especially since most content people are used to and want to engage with is on said platforms. Not everyone wants to jump onto new platforms with learning curves, but this is an in-between for the people gaining awareness.
That, and having a fundamental disagreement with the way a platform is run or what telemetry they harvest doesn't mean I don't like the content there. Social media has been a constant battle between the owners, the content creators, and the regular users. At the end of the day people use it for community and connection, even if venture capitalists are hell bent on destroying their product.
I completely agree with you friend. We're not helpless - we can do things here and there and build skills - but we're also just a tiny cog in a massive machine that doesn't stop even if we do. It's a weird thing, trying to do harm reduction and lifestyle changes (which I am too) while also knowing it doesn't change much. There's a friction, a cognitive dissonance, that I think is hard for most people paying attention and trying to be good people nowadays.
I do value truth and realism over tenuous hope though, so yes the more accurate the models the better. I just see so many different narratives about how we're "supposed" to feel about climate change and I personally think that causes emotional stasis regarding activism. I know I certainly struggle with that.
I'm tired of hearing that optimism is dangerous.

Nothing matters and we're all gonna die. That's just how it is. Do your best, eat the rich, make some noise - or don't and live a comfortable life while you still can.
Hearing narratives like this just leads to inaction. Nobody wants to act when they have no hope.
This is phenomenal!!
I've already been thinking about how humans are naturally going to adapt to be nocturnal due to the extreme day temperatures. I think it's inevitable if we can't get climate change under control. It might take a while, maybe a few generations, but imo it's coming. There would also be a big push to take vitamin supplements like they do in places near the poles that don't get sunlight certain times of the year. Those that can't afford them would just be depressed and even more miserable.
Welcome to hell! It sucks here.
They shouldn't be banned from wearing it, doesn't matter if most people don't wear them anymore. In fact, I'd argue that most people not wearing masks is a great reason why vulnerable people SHOULD wear masks, and now those who work in a place that's banned them have to choose between their health and their job. People do give a fuck, just not you.
And? People get sick from other airborne illnesses too, no person or company should ever be able to prevent someone from doing something that protects their body from injury. Banning masks, bathroom breaks, water breaks, etc, it's all the same shit fucking sandwhich
If this is the case then what's actually the point of it?
