I've been working in developing aid for ages, and while true that there are places where people earn below $1, those people hardly have smartphones.
And if they do, they can use the ad supported version just fine.

Did you upgrade to beta 25 yet? Generally you might wait a few more days until all the pricing stuff is working properly, google is still rolling it out.
Wait a couple days, regional pricing is not working yet. That's a Google problem.
Most FOSS apps are equal to or better than proprietary software when it comes to functionality, but look like they were coded in the stone age.
Most casual users value GUI over everything. And while I personally can overlook shitty user interfaces on apps I use once in a blue moon, for a social media app I'm using daily, that's a no go.
Yep, long press any setting and it will create an internal link for you to paste that Sync users can click.
Sync Ultra and Adfree are two different things altogether.
Ultra comes with adfree as a perk among with a ton of other stuff, but if all you care for is adfree, that's $9.99 lifetime.
You can still run the old software without account, as long as you never upgrade. Some third party file hosters keep it around. We got an HP at work and I refuse to give them even my business email.
In that case the company could make the app free, but it wouldn't be useable for anyone who didn't own the base service, I guess.
And users who'd want to subscribe to the base service must then be able to do so through the app, that's part of Google's requirements.
It's a separate app, you can't restore reddit purchases. That option would be in case of a migration from one phone to another.
Why not change beehaw to the default anonymous instance and use your account for lemmy.world?
I've used sync for reddit just over 12 years long. If I get the same time out of lemmy, that's 80 cents per year.
If that's too much for you, I can't help you.
