Honestly they don't sound like great people, or particularly intellectually curious - you explained it well, there's no reason for them to be caricaturing it as nerd stuff. Especially since they're on Reddit. I wouldn't worry about them.

and the other communities don't steal banners from reddit:)

Still can't figure out if it would be a good thing or a bad thing to post the same threads in both of them😭 I love the idea of federation, but I'm still at the stage where it's all really confusing...

Thanks for this:) You might wanna check the local kbin links - swap the "c"s in the addresses for "m"s and they should be good

Imagine the staff mods trying to run AskHistorians💀

that was awful, and I love it

Hi! I didn't know you were here (kbin only switched federation on yesterday)

and... um... so now there are 3 new eurovision places😭 I don't know what's the best thing to do! I'm new to all this...

It's great that you're here though:)

~~edit: I'll message you about this a bit later (can't seem to do that from here right now, so I might have to sign up to feddit) - def want to try and help get a community going somewhere.~~

I found a Path of Exile one: https://kbin.social/m/PoE

It's empty at the moment, and the microblog's collecting #poe hashtags as in Edgar Allan... but at least it's there.

https://kbin.social/m/[email protected] is a thing (I'm trying to make it more of a thing, but this is June😭)

I'm surprised there isn't an antiwork yet - the fediverse feels like a good place for it

thing is known: https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]

I'm trying to breathe some life into the kbin side of it, but there are definitely people on the chirp/microblog:)

I don't think it's fair to expect someone looking to join a new knitting community to learn about client/server relationships and federated social platforms.

This is the situation with the communities I'm most interested in - it's a big psychological barrier to entry, if you're not particularly tech-minded. I've been trying to spread the word, but I don't think I can put it simply enough (and I've been putting it really simply, because honestly I don't completely understand it all myself yet).

I'm here because it was easy to sign up, it's friendly and reasonably intuitive, and it seems like a place where you can learn by doing. I just jumped in without thinking too much about it, and it's working out pretty well so far. I just wish more people understood that they could do the same thing...

This is so unnerving😭

I think my favourite part is how easily the bot pivoted from "you don't care about me, leave me alone" to cheerfuly listing its favourite Microsoft employees. Although trying to deflect the bot's scarily intense lovebombing by asking for shopping advice for a new rake - that seems like a good life tip, I'm going to remember that one...

and now I'm going to uninstall Bing:/

Same - and that's why it sucks that they're going to ruin those communities. But hopefully we can build something better on here.
