I just saw this, highlighting my own

"In an internal memo sent Monday afternoon to Reddit staff, CEO Steve Huffman addressed the recent blowback directed at the company, telling employees to block out the “noise” and that the ongoing blackout of thousands of subreddits will eventually pass."

In my navigation of the fediverse the last few days I've noticed a few people running instances of mastodon and lemmy with just themselves or 1 or 2 other people etc.

If you into tinkering and selfhosting, why not :D Means you're in full control of what other instances you federate with/can see etc.

I have 5 invites, I want to save one for my bro but if you, or any other peeps want one - PM me :)

I feel reddit corp still dgaf and when the majority of subreddits are back then the blackouts will be but a memory..

For me personally - I gaf, so I deleted my 12YO reddit account, wiped my comments and now going to be a lemmy & mastodon main.

I think that the fediverse will continue to grow nicely, especially as existing reddit apps start to point to lemmy as a backend. Also places like tildes.net will grow nicely too with things like the fact the reddit is fun app dev has stated he's building an app for it.

They'll no doubt survive, but Reddit really fucked their monopoly with how this was handled.

These peeps have a cool feature that opens a pop up in your local instance when you click on follow on another instance https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/mastodon-simplified-federation/

We're all learning dude :D I just played around with the fork, broke it, reverted it, played around again etc. until it worked nicely to be honest.

Nice work dude! I forked and tweaked and put together a Firefox and Chrome addon which does something similar with adding icons. You can see from the screenshots on the readme. It's pending being accepted in the stores but you can build it and load it manually for now if you want.

Do you want to work together on something like this and see if we can add some cool features?

Okay so I just forked one to make it suitable for lemmy, I've submitted it to firefox and chrome to be included in their extension stores but in the meantime you can build it and load it manually.

Here's the repo if anyone is interested. Once it's uploaded onto either store I'll put a note out in this post and also probably make a new post to give people a heads up :)

I also found this that someone is devving for kbin that was based on mastodon code previously, seems it could be suitable for lemmy, or with some small changes. https://github.com/driccio98/kbin-link

I found that extension you mentioned and unfortunately can't find a repo for it to start having a little look myself. I've messaged the dev on it to see if he's interested in lemmy or open sourcing etc. EDIT - I found this version that's open source and has a higher rating than the other one https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/mastodon-simplified-federation/

Great shout! I also found this userscript although it is a little ugly atm (no hate to the dev!) and just redirects the whole page to your defined instance so you won't be able see the other community browser ui and subscribe as you described. https://sh.itjust.works/comment/60204

I've just come back from thailand and although outside is hotter over there, the buildings are much much cooler. I've been sat in a sweaty room where even coding is sweaty work ! haa
