They didn't do any research to find out if they could do so intentionally, but realised from research that it was happening unintentionally, but that they could use some tools to affect how severe it would be, and then used those tools to make it less bad

This makes zero sense. There is no financial incentive for an EEE attack, and these companies don't do anything without financial incentive.
Your content isn't original or interesting enough for meta to want it, and even if they did, they already have access to it without federation.

The problem is that while it is obvious to you that sexual orientation is a matter of birth and not choice, it isn't to, to be honest, the vast majority of people on this planet.
And also, just to put things in perspective, even the science isn't fully convinced. Most evidence tells us it's something from birth, and my personal life anecdote tells me I'm bisexual since the day I was born, but truthfully we don't have any hard evidence to prove it, since it is nearly impossible to prove.
