And there's also the live sync extension which allows you to have live document syncs in real time via your own self-hosted CouchDB instance

PHP for sure can have a negative effect depending on how they are handling their data access through.

The application code itself running on PHP probably isn't a problem but the influence that PHP may have over your data access patterns can be a source of significant performance problems.

That doesn't really resolve the problem of is the media safe.

From a cybersecurity standpoint you should be validating the mime type of the media at a minimum (The actual magic number, not the extension). And running it through ClamAV as well, ideally, before it's released to your media library.

Client devices probably shouldn't have admin privileges those should be restricted to the admin UI.

That's a nightmare waiting to happen when some device pushes an update that deletes your entire library, or a bug in a client does the same.

No idea, but remember these statements aren't meant for the technically inclined it's meant for your average Joe.

It probably refers less to individual chips and more to individual components.

Hopefully right to repair laws will continue to spread which will make it difficult for companies to restrict business in specific states.

The irony here is that their constant push against a national standard for right to repair means that all these companies are now going to have to deal with slightly different laws in every single state that are an absolute nightmare to comply with.

Because they obviously didn't read the article?

Unless you only use software and libraries hosted on gitlab, which you don't, then that's immaterial to this problem. GitHub is a target because of it's size, Gitlab and friends are seemingly just as vulnerable to this sort of attack, which ONLY works because of human nature. Which last I checked is the same regardless of platform...
