TBH I don't tend to read SF for the characters. I was hooked when I got to the section with the camera/numbers. But then the detective guy basically says, we have no way of knowing what that is so just ignore it and get drunk. And it's not explained or really mentioned again until the very end.

The three body problem had a very slow start. It took me several attempts to get past the first section. But it's definitely worth persevering with. It's one of my favorite series now.

Beat Saber is definitely worth it if you could afford it. It's the only game since DDR that has scratched the same itch for me.
If not then there's also the Just Dance games on switch but they're a lot more casual. If you want a more fitness type game then Ring fit Adventure on the switch is good.
When I'm learning a new language I like to try and solve problems from sites like https://adventofcode.com/ or https://projecteuler.net/ I find this gives my learning more of a focus. After you've done a few of these you should have enough confidence to attempt your own projects
JJ had very little to do with Lost after the first half season. He just helped set up some of the initial mysteries and left it to Lindelof to try and sort out the resolution. Lindelof went on to do some amazing series... the Leftovers and Mrs Davis both have good (although somewhat ambiguous) endings
