For the Play store, the developer provides a compiled version of the program.

For F-droid, the source code must be available online, and F-droid compiles the program, not the developer. This way you can be sure the source code is the actual code used.

Usually the two versions are the same, but sometimes the f-droid version is the play store paid version, but for free.

I use Kvaesitso, and have used it for a while now. I like it! https://kvaesitso.mm20.de/

I don't think it gets bonus points though

What mail server software do you use, and was it difficult to set up?

I am considering setting up a local mail server for archiving old emails off the internet. But email sounds difficult..

Like most others I use paperless-ngx.

On top of that, I use syncthing to sync the paperless files to my mobile phone. You can set storage path for each file in paperless; I have one for important files like tickets. Then I have them even without internet access 🙂👍

I also use email and company apps (flights, ..) .. 🫣 For movies I also use "note to self" in signal to quickly store and find them..

From what I read, wireguard uses less resources. I started using it on a raspberry pi, so it mattered. And on a side note, Linus enjoyed the code https://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/1808.0/02472.html

Also I don't think wireguard has a default port. And it doesn't answer at all unless you have a key, so I think port scanning is a bit tricky.

But if OpenVPN works, I wouldn't change it :)

Not OP, but you could setup a wireguard vpn in your home network.

It would require opening up a port on your router for wireguard. and probably use a dynamic dns provider ( duckdns.org or similar ) to get an url.

Yes. It was the "save it somewhere" I was wondering what people do. If you keep it in the same building as the server, a fire could render backups useless.

I ended up storing it on a separate online service from backblaze

Where do you backup the decryption? Is it a memorized password, or a key?

I don't have a suggestion that perfectly fits your bill. But have you tried streets of rogue? It is a rogue lite, but I had a lot of fun, and it has old style graphics
