The Election Research Institute is led by Heather Honey, a prominent activist who has spread false claims about elections.

This is the game. Challenge everything as much as possible. Even if very little of it sticks, two big things have will have happened:

  1. Some number of actual votes will have been invalidated -- often from groups more likely to vote blue.

  2. The same groups making the challenges can claim that the multitude of challenges are themselves evidence of problems with the electoral system. (This should be impossible, but it seems to be a common tactic when googling from your armchair counts as "research".)

This is why claiming to be a "prophet" (by any of a multitude of definitions) is so popular for cult leaders.

You can say you have information from a deity, one way or another, or even that you get special treatment from a deity. No special powers needed. If people believe in the deity and they believe you were chosen by that deity, to counteract that would mean counteracting the belief in the deity itself.

This is the only corporate game left. Convince clueless investors that they'll make more money if they give you money. No real innovation or even a real goal. Just buzzword after buzzword to get those investors on board.

Capitalism doesn't breed innovation. It eventually eats it.

I'd like to think some things will change once not every major investor is clueless after just being rich their whole lives, but given how generational wealth works, I'm not holding my breath.

Everyone who gets this rich is a grifter. They have to be, because you don't become that insanely wealthy without ripping off everyone around you.

There should be no expectation of fair play by anyone with 9 zeroes in their net worth, at the very least.

Tipping is a way for businesses to have the public subsidize not paying their employees enough. It has the added benefit of seeming like it is "pro-worker", in that saying we need to get rid of tipping tends to be unpopular with those relying on tips.

But if the worker was making a living wage to begin with, they wouldn't need the tips to survive. This highlights the problem: the money the business owner keeps to buy the new yacht is the same money that should be going to the worker, but instead, the worker gets the chance of the public subsidizing their wages while the business owner simply pockets more.

If tipping were outlawed tomorrow, many businesses would go under because they actually don't have business models that support paying a living wage. This is the real problem, but it is very, very hard to fix since tipping is so socially accepted now.

One more rich person in the US doing illegal things without consequences.

The quiet part is now the loud part, and it doesn't matter at all.

I ended up with a 6600XT (somewhat rare card now, but it's a 6600 with a higher TDP) in my Linux rig. I was upgrading from a GTX 970.

I have been quite happy with performance since I only play at 1080p, though 8GB of VRAM can be problematic in flight simming.

Model aside, definitely worth the AMD switch on Linux, though.

Way back when trickle-down worked as intended.

Are these targets made by the corpos just throwing darts at a board filled with numbers?

Ignore everything you see about polling. Polls don't win elections, but they can sway elections.

Vote. Vote. Vote.

Thank you thank you thank you. This is exactly what I want on Lemmy.

No no no.......Sonic and Knuckles was just Sonic 3, the other half of the cartridge that they sold you a second time, somehow.

It's not though? Sonic & Knuckles has unique stages and story vs. Sonic 3. Unless you mean they were designed as one game and split at the end before release; that I don't know.

I am curious if the MAGA-esque approach to politics is new for the US, or if there have been other examples of similar political movements which may be considered "cult-like". To better define what I mean, here are some examples:

  • Large amounts of signs bearing a candidate's name being shown by single individuals (e.g. big trucks covered in Trump signs everywhere)

  • Use of a candidate name over the US flag

  • Use of a kind of supporter uniform (e.g. the red MAGA hat)

  • The "alternative facts" of MAGA, where debate can be impossible because supporters believe anyone who is a detractor must be lying

  • In some cases, voter intimidation or coercion from staunch supporters

It seems to me that some of this is new but I'd love to hear other thoughts. I have heard and seen many relatively obvious parallels to German politics in the 20s-40s, but I'm specifically wondering if anything similar has ever been seen in the US before.

I know a lot of people hate this kind of feature, but there are significant reasons why I think it would make Starfield better.

If I'm not wearing one and I leave my ship, I start taking damage if the planet is dangerous. The only way around that is to be in 3rd person while in the ship (aside from the workaround below). There isn't any indication anywhere as to whether or not you are in a spacesuit, besides your menu and 3rd person view. There is no way to know while maintaining immersion.

Bethesda's workaround is to auto-hide spacesuits and helmets in atmo. This sucks, because I personally like tailoring the look of my character to the environment. But more importantly, I want to know that I am wearing a pressure suit if I'm out in a dangerous environment. I don't want it to feel like I'm a freecam wandering around -- I want to feel like I'm slogging along in a freaking spacesuit.

What's really strange is: if you put on the broken Constellation helmet, you can see the tape piece from the inside. It has an overlay! Sadly this works for no other helmet. Did they just abandon making the textures?

A similar annoyance with a related system: the quick menu does not unequip items. This would make it super easy to change between a spacesuit and regular outfit and not deal with more menus.

I figure there will be a mod at least for helmet overlays eventually, but damn is it frustrating that they definitely thought about it and only implemented it for a piece of masking tape.
