Russia’s economy is a war time economy. Everything is transitioned over to war. Even if Russia got everything it demanded today, the war would not end. Why? Because Russia is not prepared and is not willing to dismantle their war-time economy and switch it back to a normal peace-time economy.

Russia is obviously untrustworthy as they break deals and promises all the time (which is how we are here, in war right now). But even if Russia was trustworthy, any peace accord that does not include a roadmap for Russia to renormalize their economy would be a temporary ceasefire at best.

Amazing how far a 3.6% GDP country can get with Assets, Sharp Power, and Chekist attitude alone.

Rubio is a jellyfish. What a coward.

I’m learning German now and it’s insanely logical. I’m angry people dissuaded me as a kid from learning German. I truly love the language and Germans are also very kind.

Side note: are there any German communities on Lemmy you know of? I’d like to join. I’m a fan of Staiy and Spacefrogs.

You’re right and this disregard for the old system is making me nervous. These moves are so economically unsound that I can only draw the conclusion that the old neo-liberal business interests are not a concern anymore. If America tanks its importing and outsourcing model, what will it be replaced with? I’m not confident there’s a plan here (other than isolation and destruction).

I agree. This was my first thought. Maybe something organically will come about. Sauce?AbandonedSauce? Which would make FoodPorn = FoodSauce. which is amusing

Right? The idea is fine: solar system. But the execution is like a 6th grade science fair tri-fold poster.

I just came over from Reddit. I stepped back after the API debacle but didn’t switch to Lemmy until this week when they threatened me for upvoting something “violent” (honestly, no idea what it could have been).

Anyway, I want to agree with your sentiment. Remember Reddit before they started messing with the upvotes? Top posts would have 1k-2k upvotes and outstanding insanely popular posts would break like 7k.

On Lemmy, I scan the comments and I easily can see real people talking. I usually have to scan a long time on Reddit to find real people and not bots recycling comments. It makes me wonder how many real humans are commenting over there.

Glad there’s humans here.

I generally trust Japanese companies. They usually have a core value to make a product that they are proud of and a product that fits humans. Hobonichi, for example, they update their product every year. They look improve their quality but also usability. There’s also a focus around joy of using a product not just luxury.

Sodateru, a towel company, is similar. They give hand written notes with your towel which is thoughtful. I also am fond of Zojirushi, Ricoh EMOOR, and Pilot pens. I use products from these companies every day.

Luxury isn’t always tied with Joy in the West. Luxury is often just tied with expense or material only. But I find that joy is very important to me when using a product. More-so than expense or material. If the product is not joyful to use then it won’t be a good experience no matter how much money was spent.

So, if I can see a Japanese company is committed to making a great product, that is also joyful to use, then I will favor that brand.

Because of this I look forward to buying products from Japanese companies more than Western brands.

It’s truly astounding, isn’t it? Like, is there any investment that hasn’t totally killed the product? You can feel when a company switches over too to the investors. It doesn’t matter what the product is.

Like, take the website ModCloth. Started as a vintage fashion reseller. It was like a little community that was attached to a e-commerce store.

Walmart subsidiary bought them out. Changed over the website. Deleted everyone’s usernames, information, and profiles. And with it over a decade of user posts and photos. Website stopped selling any good quality vintage style clothes. The entire reason anyone shipped there. It’s just like drop shopped tshirts with stolen art now. What the fuck.

I can think of a hundred more examples. Investors buying any company should sound like a banshee scream.
