I was going to make a comment earlier about that game. absolutely frustrating to watch, even as a neutral observer.
The TV crew even went back to a play before to point out the blatantly missed Jacksonville false start, after that terrible string of defensive penalties against Houston.
between the college and NFL this weekend, there's been a lot of terrible officiating. like, worse than the normal bad-bad.
grounding calls have been more common this year, and often they're called in bizarre plays that go against what the spirit of the rule is.
that grounding call on Allen today was a great example of how fucked officiating is: Allen got horse collar tackled, and tried to throw it away. the refs called for IG, totally ignoring the horse collar that caused the "foul." then MFing Gene Steratore (sp? WC) comes on to explain why the IG call was legit (which is fine), "so although they unfortunately missed the horse collar, now you have an intentional grounding."
dude, just do the right thing! the IG occurred because the defense was breaking the rules and caused it to happen! change the damn rules to (I say this hesitantly) give the officials ability to use discernment to fix these obvious, egregious missed calls that affect the outcomes. when everybody sees the obvious foul/whatever, just fix it, use the damn tech at your disposal, (lose the ego), and FIX THAT SHIT.
