The EU in this case it's, as most of the times, the ensemble of its national government leaders. In itself the declaration means nothing and was probably used as a bargain cheap for Argentina to delay its idea of joining the BRICS (according to some news).. if that was the case it was not so bad, a meaningless declaration in exchange of limiting Chinese and Russian interference in South America, not so bad.

I think this was probably used as a reminder of "you're no longer a member, Brexit means Brexit", but I think it's in the interest of EU members to assert once again the importance of international law and basic common sense. Argentianian claims are totally baseless of either and are pure expansionism.

PS: And let's not forget that Falklanders were not allowed to vote on the Brexit referendum.

I believe this was a misstep by the EU countries. No country should legitimize the stupid Argentinian expansionism, especially countries like Portugal, Spain or France, Denmark, Finland or Greece, who also have islands that are closer to third countries.

The Falkland were never Argentinian, it makes as much sense to declare them Argentinian as to declare the Canaries Moroccan or Saint Pierre et Miquelon Canadian.

If being close is reason to annex it, than let the wars begin! Because every territory is close to some other territory.

I used to buy that but then I visited Cuba and it's hard to believe those statistics. It's incredibly poor, everyone sees tourists as cash cows and beg them for money, shirts, try to scam them.. it becomes unpleasant very fast outside Varadero, where doctors are working as barmen because that pays so much better with all the tips they get from Canadians.

I came across a university professor while strolling a campus in Havana and we started to chat about the country. By the end he asked me if I had any nice spare t-shirt (I don't know why, but several people asked me for this) and I felt a bit depressed with the situation. And no, I didn't have any spare shirts, I always travel light.

Communism definitely failed there. It's an unequal and corrupt society with obscene leves of poverty. Yes, the American embargo for sure doesn't help, but it's not the main reason for that.

So they have zero confidence in their own god to punish Sweden or coran burners.

I call it "fragile religiosity" or "weak faith".

I meant I could see the appeal of a car big enough to just drive over a jam of small cars. But I don't really mean it, of course. Hope the one shown is just some stupid prototype that will never be mass produced.

Ahah I guess next year I'll bother my Mastodon followers a bit less and focus on Eurovision Lemmy instead 😅

[–] bossito 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I just subscribed, hope to see something there soon. On my search for Eurovision I saw plenty of communities but most showed only one user, but maybe being at Lemmy.world limits the number of users I see in communities elsewhere? Hmm I guess I'll subscribe them all then 😅

The first one gives an error and the second one shows empty 🤔

Still not high enough to just drive over the other cars.. just stupidly big without achieving anything :P

It's not a perfect fit, so if you want to use both Lemmy and Mastodon I strongly advice you to have an account in each.

That said, you can follow Lemmy users or communities on Mastodon, likes made on Mastodon to Lemmy posts equate to upvotes here. If you reply to a comment sent from Mastodon, the Mastodon user will see it. But to fully enjoy both, you need 2 accounts.
