It may be possible that socialism and capitalism are just economic tools that can applied to different sectors of the economy depending on which works best in a given context.

While I wouldn't agree that the ideologies of socialism and capitalism are compatible in determining economic relations within a country, I would say that socialism and even communism are compatible with markets, which is what I would say is the "tool" in that statement. Markets can be designed based on what is useful for that sector.

Yeah he ran on corruption but his approval ratings weren't doing the best before the war started.

Liberalism is individualist above all in my mind. What advances your personal freedom is the best thing for everyone. Neoliberalism is a post-Keynesian consensus that believes this is most achievable through equal opportunity in the free market.

I also like Phil Ochs definition of liberal from the 60s, "ten degrees to the left of center in good times, ten degrees to the right of center when it affects them personally.

Same way a printer works, or color blending for that matter, with RGB or CMYK you can make any color. Primary colors and brightness. Greyscales and magentas are extra-spectral.

FT is pretty solid when it comes to data analysis like this. The point is to show a specific trend not to encompass all the data in the sources.

Is "I saw a meme" a meme now?

The aftermath of racial desegregation court victories are some of the most interesting things in recent US history. A law would be struck down and sort of left like that... and people would take it upon themselves to organize and challenge the new law, often in the face of violent opposition. Freedom Riders taking busses down to the south to challenge desegregation of public transit being met with mobs and put in jail.

Whenever we see this same old point being made and think "yes, how stupid are people," remember that being shamed in to voting doesn't work and this even helped get Trump elected in 2016. The only thing that happens with this is a sense of self-validation.

If the Democrats really didn't want Trump, someone would deal with him how they deal with other existential threats. He's great for fundraising though, and most big donors support both parties.

Lua is so friendly, I've run in to it in a few instances in different contexts. Currently have a "sound computer" shield for rpi that uses Lua to run community scripts, which turn the thing in to anything from synths to sequencers to loopers and some really esoteric stuff. Lua is so intuitive I'm able to tweak stuff and even add functionality to existing scripts without much effort.

"Rally for sanity" was such a timely thing too, the naivety of appealing to people's reason is a lot more obvious now.

I got it confused with the Reason Rally at first, it's a pretty hilarious lineup in today's context, but another thing from that time in US politics.

Yeah this has been a thing forever. DeSantis was the strong culture war candidate too and... yeah. Trump has a clear role in culture war but he doesn't seem to care personally, he flip flops all the time on many culture war issues depending on what is convenient or funny to say in the moment.
