Cougars up north? (self.wisconsin)
submitted 1 year ago by bafflecore to c/wisconsin

I've been hearing a few anecdotes lately of people seeing a big brown cat, bigger than a bobcat, roaming around in the northeast sort of in the vicinity of Marinette, even crossing roads and such. At least one of my coworkers claims to have seen a black one "way bigger than a bobcat" in the treeline outside her house.

I know the wolves have been coming back over the past couple of decades, but does anybody know the official status of cougars in the Upper Great Lakes region?

Ope! What's the etiquette when you make a duplicate community across instances? Is one supposed to yield and merge?

Shoutout to the fair in Crandon for getting 8 people stuck upside-down on a rollercoaster for 3 hours. I heard they had to call in bucket trucks from a few surrounding counties because they either didn’t have any tall enough or ones with the right configuration to get people down.

Remember, every time you go to the county fair, those rides are designed to fold up as quickly as possible and be operated by a teenager. Still won’t stop me from going on the Zipper this year tho.

There are a lot of eccentric little gems like these floating around up north. The feet are funny, obviously, but I find the directions written on them really interesting. It was just a straight shot up 45 from Chicago, all the way to the Michigan border, apparently straight enough that they felt confident just telling people "just keep going north you'll find us eventually".

I'm still learning how Lemmy and the overall fediverse works, so please bear with me.

Anybody from Wisconsin, who was once from Wisconsin, who wants to come to Wisconsin, or who is just interested in Wisconsin is invited to come hang out. Bears fans need not apply.

I have no clue what I'm doing, but I wanted to start a community for Wisconsin, since r/Wisconsin was one of the main communities I interacted with before I abandoned Reddit last month. Please bear with me as I figure out how this platform works and try to feel out some rules for this group.

Feel free to post basically anything related to Wisconsin - sports, recreation, news, recommendations, memes, etc., even just casual conversation with your fellow Wisconsinites. Political posts may be scrutinized depending on context and tone. In general, be excellent to each other and don't be assholes.
