No country takes action based on moral grounds. They only take action for their self interest. This is international relations 101. Sometimes these align! Sometimes... not so much.

What Taiwan has done is made the "good" outcome (Taiwan remains free and independent) align with the US's self interest (having computers and a tech based economy).

The US will always exert power over Taiwan, so will China. That's just what great powers do. However, China doesn't need to threaten an invasion to do this. There is no reason China can't relinquish their claim on Taiwan and just build a casual trade relationship with Taiwan.

but we expect to produce "thousands upon thousands" of fancy new drones?

I think Taiwan can absolutely help support the US in producing thousands upon thousands of new drones.

Yes. Defend Taiwan from a Chinese invasion that threatens their sovereignty. One that is continuously threatened by China and one Taiwan actively prepares for.

Smells like some policies are getting changed

Imagine using a cat for target practice at work and not getting fired.

The language begins: "The proposed amendment would: Repeal constitutional protections against gerrymandering approved by nearly three-quarters of Ohio electors participating in the statewide elections of 2015 and 2018, and eliminate the longstanding ability of Ohio citizens to hold their representatives accountable for establishing fair state legislative and congressional districts."

Seems clear and unbiased to me lol

I was really on the fence between Donald and Kamala. But I think this is what pushed me into the Trump camp. I mean, come-on, it's as if someone depicted Trump as the Chad and Kamala as the soy wojack. There is no argument. It's over for the Democrats.

I'm really glad I clicked that link. What a read.

Right now people at the margins deal with harm in a healthy, restorative, and transformative way, and they have been doing this because they are Black, Indigenous, Queer, feminized, criminalized, or whatever other context that prevents them from turning to the police.

That's an optimistic generalization of how marginalized groups manage harm when they cannot turn towards the police. Marginalized groups can and have created armed rule enforcement (mobs, gangs, rooftop Koreans, armed guards at pride events etc.).

When government sanctioned police forces do not engage with a group, a group may develop its own policing system to enforce rules and protect its members.

Edit: While looking up gang activity in the Soviet Union I learned about the Bitch Wars. What a name.

This has the same energy as going back in time and bullying a medieval peasant.

Baby steps. If things are less bad for 4 or 8 years, progressive policies become more palatable for people. This gets you closer to your ideal state.

it seems the STAR credit is not available to new homeowners. It's only available to people who are grandfathered in.

You might be looking at the enhancement STAR which has more complex requirements. Here is the PDF for new homeowners and here is the actual eligibility page.

edit: OH you are looking at the STAR exemption vs the STAR credit. Yeah it's basically the same thing. One is applied to your taxes before you receive your tax bill (and is being phased out since 2015) and the other is a direct deposit you receive. Same amount.
