No it wasn't a funny comment

Rough math after maxing 2 401ks, taxes and paying 1000 a month for insurance they should be making around 12k take home a month. Even with only 5% down they should be able to get into a 7-800k house and still have 4k-5k a month for other expenses. I found 25 results under 700k in the greater Portland area some as low as 479k (actually in Portland) for 2.5k sf min 4+ bedrooms 2 bath min 1/4 acre lot.
I think you got woodshed. His comment used the example of the smart ass answer about their waist to say the ftc is at least trying and while this may not be effective at least it's a start.
I grew up poor but both my parents started making good money around the time I graduated HS. What's crazy is that my step-dad was able to buy a house for us as a self employed electrician he probably made about 1/2 to 2/3s what I make now and that house is about 250k out of my price range now. I can get a 675sf condo near me for $80k more than the 2000sf+ house I'm looking to put an offer in on.
Edit just looked up our old house it's got a zestimate of $1.04 mil so it's a solid $500k out of my price range.
That has way more to do with corporate purchases of residential homes for rentals and short term rentals than anything specifically tied to CA. I feel you though I've considered leaving the state CO, OR, or WA., I'm being forced out of the town I grew up in for sure, just looked at places still in CA about 4 hours from where I grew up and can get a much nicer place for 300k less than a dump of the same size would be where I live.
My FIL owns a property in my area but it's torn down to the studs, him fixing it letting us buy it or rent it at a discount is the only way I'm staying in my area. Fortunately my MIL and my FIL's mom are pushing for it.
Because everything besides housing/COL is great here. Ocean, lakes, mountains, deserts, trees, giant trees, caves, fresh produce, legal weed, less bigotry, great state and national parks. Good weather for any preference. Great Universities, both public and private. Great community college system. Earthquakes big enough to cause serious damage, unlike tornados, blizzards, hurricanes are very rare.
Sounds like the dog scared and probably chased the smaller threats off and left her to get mauled by the big guy. I'm kinda surprised it didn't stay closer to the lady and scuffle with the big boy.
I do have a young child, and where does op state they are a single parent. Yes throwing screens in front of kids is the easiest way for you to ignore them and do what you have to do, but it's not recommended and it's bad for their development.
Well maybe don't post about how your kid crys when they can't watch TV. And maybe you should have solicited advice from your pediatrician.
Have you tried reading to your kid instead
