Yes! So glad you all were able to make it!

I’ve gone ahead and given mod to any regulars I recognized.

Here’s the readme, which took me an embarrassingly long time to find, lol. (Who pays attention to footers?)

So glad you were finally able to get it working!

You’re welcome! Thanks for giving lemmy a chance.

Hello! Welcome!

Hi! So glad you were finally able to get in!

Our Janet says at some point that she doesn’t experience time the way humans do.

I took that to mean that, while she’s of course sad to see Jason walk through the door, in a very real, tangible sense he will live forever in her memory. Her memory is also her reality.

As an artificial being, the part of her that’s like a robot, if not a robot per se, must have something analogous to a hard drive. And since Janets are effectively indestructible, her data never degrades, unlike fallible human memory.

If she wanted, she could probably conjure up a new Jason just as she did Derek, her more sophisticated Janet babies, or how Jason made a Pillboi in her void. Or she could just relive her memories of him as if they were happening in the present.

Add in Jeremy Bearimy to the mix, and perhaps he really does come back to the Afterlife again, in a way even the other remaining Cockroaches (just Tahani now, I suppose) can experience.

As to whether Janets are “forced” to serve, I think that goes back to the question of sentience. They are created with the desire to serve, it’s programmed into them.

And despite all her personal growth over the seasons, even our Janet generally enjoys serving her friends (maybe “helping” would be the better word here.)

So are Janets enslaved? Maybe, but at minimum it’s something they enjoy doing.

At maximum they’d be miserable without some kind of service, some purpose to their existence. Just like Michael and the humans, everyone needs a rock to push up the hill, even Janets.

This was Schur’s answer:

The only problem we really faced, when we came up with the idea that Simone died on Earth and thus gave Shawn the idea to disrupt Michael's experiment by using people the Four Cockroaches had personal issues with, was that...it meant Simone died tragically young on Earth. We decided to just make a passing reference to that and not explain it, because it would be, you know, sad. In our heads it was some freak accident, akin to Eleanor's death but not as on the nose regarding the way she lived her life.

With Jeremy Bearimy the Earth timeline was made largely irrelevant anyway so I don’t think the Bad Place would have had to intervene directly to make her part of the experiment.

SKAEKH

Will you be offering more colors?

Also, if you could somehow link up with Keyboard Layout Editor, that would be really cool!

Yeah, unfortunately the site as a whole got taken over by some of the worst parts of the internet almost as soon as Saidit opened. That’s what you get when you market yourself as a free speech platform—people always want to push the limits, be as offensive as possible, see what they can get away with.

The WOTB Saidit is pretty much at parity with what you’d see at r/WayOfTheBern, though. Most of the mods have moved over, and they’re running their Saidit the same way they ran their sub: i.e., You can express whatever opinion you like, but if you prove to be a horrible troll repeatedly, you’ll have to pay the turtle tax.

Their Saidit is currently being brigaded by idiots who don’t know what the turtle tax is, which is why it may look pretty shitty right now.

Anyway I’m hoping they all give lemmy a shot, as I think the Fediverse with its inherent protections against corporate tyranny is right in line with WOTB’s philosophy.

Glad to see at least some of the WOTB people are already here!

Also in case you’re not aware, WOTB has a mirror on saidit here: https://saidit.net/s/wayofthebern

Your dog is so cute! Seems to love Jason, too. A kindred spirit.

Reminds me how Michael had Jason play fetch when he needed that 30 second break…

Okay, thanks for the info. I appreciate it. :)
