Except that finding a cure for any disease would be insanely profitable. I think even health insurance companies would prefer that their members are healthy so they can just charge premiums without having to pay anything out. This whole "big pharma is hiding the cure for X for profits" conspiracy has always been garbage when you actually consider it for than a second

Heavy subsidies to our own industry are definitely a better alternative, but our politicians would rather cry "China bad" and further line the pockets of our ruling class

Not really different anywhere as far as I know. Old ships usually have tons of cancerous/toxic material as part of their construction so nobody wants to deal with salvaging them for free

Will they really lose much money though? Chip makers (NVIDIA especially) have practically been able to sell everything they can produce since before the start of COVID, so I doubt they will lose a lot from this

And unlike the original trolley problem, pulling the lever will always kill more people. I'd wager most people wouldn't pull this lever because of this, but I agree there's no Nash equilibrium.
