Nope I do not mean that. $24 billion in funding plus 4 billion in grants to local governments. All of this before they decided to start removing homeless people from the streets. Don’t tell them they haven’t tried to fix the root cause, they have, they just couldn’t manage to do it, and honestly I can’t blame them, rehabilitating homeless people is a tough job that money can’t do.

Nope, he provided them a ton of funding to fix the problem … and they didn’t. Kind of their fault

And how would we do that? In places like SF we’ve spent billions trying to fix the problem … and nothing has been fixed. There are many options for help but the people on the streets choose not to seek for help, they made the decision to stay on the streets and this is the consequence.

And that’s why they won’t set up a fab in Europe, the cost of manufacturing would simply be too high.

Yup, that’s why I said almost. And tbf TSMC also has a 3nm process. But crucially Samsungs 3 and 5 nm fabs are not in the US, their best fab in Texas only goes down to 14 nm.

It’s doubly bad because Asian countries are significantly more productive due to extremely long working hours.

They aren’t stubborn, it’s simply way easier for them to make a profit in Taiwan instead. If ever the workers in Taiwan refused 12 hour shifts then TSMC would see the writing on the wall.

Something similar happened when Foxconn first opened iPhone in India.

TSMC is a massive company that makes a huge profit. Almost nobody else in the world can make 5nm chips (intel can but they already are setting up in Ohio).

A large chunk of ASMLs workforce is in the US actually.

ETA: about half their workforce is in Europe

Weren’t there some issues with a few UNRWA staff helping hamas? As much as I’d like to support relief efforts, that is a red flag.

I was using mastodon instead and commenting on lemmy posts from there.

Yes, I know what it means, and that is pretty borderline to me especially when considering it in the results of previous ones in that region. Especially when the word “global” is often positioned before it (I should have probably mentioned that tbf).
