I had a Baptist minister tell me that he refused to get his masters. It involved learning to read source material. He said all of his friends that did became less religious, and he was afraid it would happen to him.
It would reinforce it. Instead, do what several countries have done, and make tipping mostly non-existent.
I would rather outlaw asking for a tip. And force all restaurants to pay a fair wage and price that into the food price.
