Alright, so I love your attitude and your going to fit in just fine in the D. As for your wife's family, Canton is closer to Ann Arbor than it is Detroit so I chuckled a bit when you named their city. Have a great time and let us know how you end up spending your time in our fair city!

Downtown Detroit is perfectly safe and filled with lots of fun things to do both during the day and at night. The worst that will likely happen is that a homeless person will ask you for money while sitting harmlessly on the street. This can happen in any major city, tho. Stick to downtown and stay out of the Detroit neighborhoods and you'll be fine. There is nothing touristy to do in the neighborhoods so you'll have no reason to go into them.

Pretty much everything negative people say about Detroit is the typical overblown pearl clutching. As for your family that lives in Detroit... Do they actually live in Detroit or one of the suburbs? Because that will be most telling. Most people that live in the metro Detroit area will say they're from Detroit because it's easier to explain than being from Clinton Township or Troy.. And suburbanites can be snobby about Detroit in general. I fully agree with your gut feelings and they are spot on.

As for a comment for your first time traveling to the US.. I'm delighted you chose Detroit and I'm hopeful you will have a blast while here! Detroit has awesome culinary, music, and art scenes and there is something here for everyone!

Another problem with some teslas (and other vehicles) is that there are switching to laminate for the side window glass for strength purposes. These devices wont work in a survival situation if your car has laminated windows. LINK

I have heard it's easy to kick out the windshield, but I've never had to test that theory.

How does one go about procuring one of your paintings for their living room?

Get an annoyatron and put it in the ceiling above their desk.

What is an annoyatron, you may ask? It's a tiny little device that beeps or chirps. That's it. But it beeps at random several minute intervals like a dying smoke detector over it's battery's lifetime. Which can last over 3 years...

A lot of those people, like my brother in law, believe that it is cloud seeding and HAARP style antennas causing it these temps. So, totally not climate change but still man made - and it would totally stop if the global cabal would just knock it off. /s

I read once that a good thing to do was to physically mail a low denomination check to the campaign. All because the work and effort to record and deposit the funds was so labor intensive by an actual person.

And your point, even Medics who have served in combat roles and saved lives on the front line can't even become civilian paramedics without four additional years of college after they're done in the military. This is all because nobody's figured out how to transfer the training that they received in the military over to the civilian world certifications

Not new indeed. Kinda reminds me of old Nextel phones that you would put a little LED on the antenna and it would blink from the EMI when sending and receiving data.

If the fine is less than the amount of donations received, then it just becomes just another cost of doing business.
