I think you underestimate how long 20 years is. But yes, in europe we usually try to improve someone while in prison so we get back a funtioning member of society, not enslave them for life like in the US.

It's the maximum sentence in france, I believe.

I was backpacking with my boyfriend and our dog one time and sitting in front of the supermarket with the dog while he went shopping. It was hot so I had a bowl of water for the dog. First a person dropped 5 euros in the water bowl, which I quickly gave back, explaining in broken french I was not homeless. Next, a kid gave me a bag of croissants and a bag of dog treats! I couldn't refuse, so now we are always on the lookout for beggars and dogs to pay it forward. We already succesfully bought treats for two dogs and gave a bag of croissants to a woman with a young child begging.

If you eat well and work out, you are probably looking really nice! Don't compare yourself to "perfect" people on instagram, compare yourself with who you where before (or just for fun with the average person in wallmart). It also helps to find another goal than simple looking good, such as lifting a certain weight, or participate in sport events. Makes it all way more fun.

I've heard from a local that they are constantly having to transport the bikes uphill again because nobody takes them that direction. Still better than cars, but not ideal.

There were some older people at my university and they always sadly had a lot of trouble making friends and fitting in. Be glad your son is a good guy who doesnt judge people by their age.

I grew up with a doctor that believed in alternative medicine and a mom afraid of using medicine except when absolutely necessary. I was also perpetually dealing with colds and headaches. Now I take cold medicine when a cold starts and a painkiller to sleep well during the cold and they last about a quarter if the time.

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with lousy people while you're going throught this! Have the doctors given you any idea on what to expect? The references on wikipedia state most symptoms stop in people with couvade a few weeks after their wife gives birth.

Yes, humans cannot eat grass (for example), but grass is also not a byproduct. And fields used to grow grass could be used either for other (human-edible) crops, habitation or for wildlife restoration.

It probably depends on the source, but here (france) you can ask your butcher for byproducts to feed to your cats/dogs and they give it for free.

That is incorrect. Around 40% of fields are used to grow food for livestock, as well as a quarter of fish caught being fed to animals. I found this article saying we could slightly increase byproduct use for feed, but they are minor improvements. https://www.nature.com/articles/s43016-022-00589-6
