Just check ebay, most movies that are a few years old can be found for under $5 shipped. I still go back to DVD/Bluray copies of my favorite movies sometimes since content changes so often on streaming services.

This is true for part time or casual use but for all day work use including travel you get better build quality and far less problems with a pro grade machine. We spend the same on a macbook, thinkpad, surface or probook for our basic full time users.

While it may be a bit overkill for someone who spends their day in word, excel, chrome and zoom we save money in the long term due to reliability. There is far less downtime and IT time spent on each user over the life of the system (3-4 years). The same is true about higher quality computer accessories.

8GB is definitely not enough for coding, gaming, or most creative work but it’s fine for basic office/school work or entertainment. Heck my M1 Macbook Air is even good with basic Photoshop/Illustrator work and light AV editing. I certainly prefer my PC laptop with 32GB and a dedicated GPU but its power adapter weighs more than a Macbook Air.

I worked for a company who went with a cut rate insurance provider one year who basically denied or screwed up every claim. This required calls, faxes and hours wasted any time anyone had a medical procedure. The kicker was that the insurance company hours were the same as our company hours so all of this had to happen during company time. They went with a proper provider the next year.

This is disappointing but not surprising and has been happening for a long time. Please do your research and never donate from a random phone call, letter, or “round up for charity” ask at a register.

I work for a 501c3 nonprofit and we are very transparent. Our website contains links to our annual impact report & form 990 along with links to our profiles on BBB, Charity Navigator and Guidestar. Donors can also visit our office and are encouraged to attend our events or trainings.

Yeah at least one is a local coffee chain in my city. They used to be good then opened more stores with lower quality product and staff/ union issues. Not surprised their canned coffee is basically the same as a bunch of others.

My kid and his friends use FaceTime instead of calling and will often be on it for hours while gaming. It's much easier than a call for 3+ people. We are in the US but I imagine they use whatsapp or whatever the same way other places.

I work for a smaller org (less than 50 ppl) and we are generally required to have cameras on in meetings.

Dad joke (lemmy.world)

Not OC but gave me a grin. Hope it hasn’t been posted recently.

Former Fresno State quarterbacks Derek Carr and Jake Haener are now in the same QB room in New Orleans with the Saints. The two former Bulldogs are entering their first seasons in New Orleans, one as a rookie and one as a veteran.

Longtime NFL quarterback Derek Carr guided Jake Haener and helped him on and off the field while Haener was at Fresno State. Now, Carr is taking the rookie under his wing in the same locker room.

Carr shared that he’s given his phone number to every Fresno State quarterback. The Bulldog great shared his number so the QB’s could reach out with any questions at any time. He shared that Jake Haener reached out consistently. Haener would drive down to Bakersfield and work with Carr when he was back in his hometown.

“I would teach him things. Maybe he already knew some stuff and some he didn’t. I’d just talk and let him learn that way” said Carr.

The two former Bulldog quarterbacks guided their teams to Mountain West victories. Both Haener and Carr took home MVP titles from the conference championship game nearly a decade apart.

“He’s a great player and Jake’s gonna be awesome and have a great career. I’m excited because I get to help him. Not only before at Fresno State but I get to help him on my team. It’s fun for me” said Carr.

I found these randomly at a candy store. Not very hot but an interesting flavor.
