Mali has a significant mine that France essentially controls. In America, we have mines but import a lot too.

We actually currently buy about 25% of our uranium supply from Russia, though Congress just passed a ban that’ll go in effect in 90 days. It allows for waivers if there are supply issues, though, so it might end up being more than 90 days. (I have no idea how quickly a country can find a new uranium supplier but it sounds complicated.)

Ken Stern, the person who wrote the definition adopted by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, testified against a basically identical version of the bill in a previous Congress. He basically said it was meant to help governments collect data on antisemitism and was never intended to be enshrined in law since some of the examples in the definition aren’t automatically antisemitism. He was concerned making the Dept. of Education use it would chill legitimate speech on college campuses.

Unfortunately, chilling legitimate speech on college campuses is the true goal of the bill so here we are.

I’d be careful with relying on poll cross tabs on issues of morality. The sample size is usually too small to tell right from wrong.

One can make stupid people attracted to you (or not) and the other can make smart people attracted to you (or not).

Jokes aside, even as an owner of multiple telescopes, astrology (as entertainment) doesn’t bother me. People who take it seriously bother me but if someone reads their horoscope for fun or says, “He’s such a Scorpio!” or whatever as a joke, I give it a pass. My mood for the day sometimes depends on the performance of a soccer team on a different continent.

Also, if you get really into astronomy/astrophotography, the positions of the planets (not to mention clouds) can predict your mood, at least for one night (or day if there’s an eclipse).

Xavier is near where I live and I’m friends with some doctors at the Tulane and LSU teaching hospitals. I’ve heard them have whole conversations about how Xavier grads make good residents. So, apparently, their pre-med program is excellent. And their college of pharmacy has always been well respected.

I don’t work in a medical field — I get nauseous just thinking about guts and humours and chose computer science — but from what I’ve heard, Xavier will be a great medical school.

Trump has photos with Epstein. So, they might at least agree on lowering age of consent.

The Groove and Soul Town are my top 2 presets but I also listen to Bluegrass Junction and Chill a lot when I’m in the mood.

I basically like every genre of music so I bounce around a lot but funk/soul is my “default.”

I don’t know why anyone would trust Sam Altman. He’s not, like, some noble visionary or great inventor. He’s just a business-side guy who seems to be able to network, raise a lot of money, and navigate corporate intrigue.

Which is perfectly fine. OpenAI needs someone who can network and raise loads of money. But I wouldn’t trust him any more than I’d trust a politician or car salesman.

And, yet, Hamas somehow never got around to killing Christians in Gaza when they were in power and it ended up being Israel that bombed churches sheltering civilians. How Ironical. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/10/20/gaza-church-strike-saint-porphyrius/

And he didn’t even get overtime for playing Candy Crush like NYPD officers get when they stand around waiting for their next chance to have a police riot.

Someone should try scolding random leftists on Lemmy about voting. As everyone knows, leftists using ActivityPub-based social media are the real kingmakers in the United States political system.

I install it on servers and put it in my bash profile so it runs when I SSH in or open a new terminal tab. Mostly just as a safety thing. It’s basically a reminder to double check I’m on the correct machine/tab before I run any commands.
