I like this way of putting it. It’s like that post that was around a few days ago discussing lemmy as being “CEO-proof”.

It’s not really I guess, but if an instance got big and started being unfriendly/unreasonable to users they could just go to another instance and still be part of the federation.

This is a neat infographic! Thanks for sharing.

Absolutely. I think mine is still around somewhere, but the screen has a pretty substantial crack if I’m remembering correctly.

How have you found Lineage OS? I was curious about FOSS phone OS options a while ago.

I loved my nexus 6 back in the day (which I believe was made by Motorola). I miss it sometimes today.

That’s neat by the way: using the edge part of the screen as trigger buttons for Citra.

Yeah it’s a familiar story isn’t it? :/

As for where to post your art: I’m not sure what is the most effective these days, but I’d definitely see if you can find some communities to post to here on the fediverse. I think they’d appreciate your stuff and you could cross post to a few communities across instances if I’m not mistaken.

This made me think about how much I miss the video store!

There was something really special about going out as a family and browsing all the cover art. Copies of Star Wars were always rented out at ours. Memories of renting a Godzilla movie you’d never seen, begging your dad for candy and popcorn on the way to the checkout counter. Good times. I miss them. 🥲

Yeah I’m having a lot of crashes too. It also seems like notifications aren’t working for me/aren’t implemented yet.

It’s looking good though and I guess I’ll switch between web and Mlem while all the bugs are ironed out.

Ahhh I see. That makes sense.

I guess a bunch of big severs downloading everything from smaller servers would also create an issue too just like the other way around huh?

I noticed this too. I think it’s a bug because if you click on All and then back to Local it changes to only communities local to your instance.

Something that kind of bothers me about this way of doing it (even though I understand it’s probably a performance or otherwise concern) is that it means that users from other instances can’t see older top posts on a community just because a user from their instance hadn’t joined up until some point.

That seems kinda like it’s a second-class experience for anyone on a different instance unless I’m missing something.

The solution I guess is creating an account on the other instance if you want to see all the older top posts, but then you’re starting to make accounts on multiple instances which is not my personal preference.

Just thinking out loud. I’m curious if anyone else feels the same way.

I just installed the Mlem TestFlight and I’m very encouraged.

It’s already got a similar feel to Apollo and I’m excited to see it develop further. I like the Lemmy web interface as well, but it has its fair share of bugs at the moment (which is to be expected). In particular searching for communities across all instances is really easy on Mlem.

I’m not sure what is next for Reddit, but I’m feeling more and more hopeful that it doesn’t include me at the moment. If I can have a thriving home on the fedeverse, I’ll take that most definitely.

I woke up and did nearly the same thing!

Yeah! Lemmy.world is a better fit for me overall. I had joined beehaw.org after lemmy.ml asked users to try and find other instances to call home initially. I didn’t completely mesh with their server preferences. They are a great community though and I appreciate what they’re doing. I hope they keep growing as well.
