That's a very good question, and one that I don't know the answer to. I would guess no, as the point of the Istari losing their memories was to make them more like the people they were sent to save; it's not something about being embodied that made them lose their bodyless memories, it was part of their mission. The balrogs had no such mission

Iirc the books themselves didn't say, but Tolkien's letters say something to the effect of the Istari only having vague memories of their time as Maia, with the exception of things that they were explicitly meant to remember, e.g. Olórin's memories of being sent back after his physical death while fighting Durin's Bane.

They know that they are, in our parlance, embodied angels or minor gods, but they don't remember a ton of where they came from

"G'day cunts" goes over either extremely well or extremely poorly, with no in-between

So it's more like RC Aces then

At that point aren't they RC professionals?

What do you mean backfires?

Pfft, seems perfectly cromulent to me.

Does anybody know of a list of usb live-bootable distros, with links to the download pages?

I have a coworker who wants to switch his gaming computer over to Linux, he has Linux experience but from like a decade ago.

He's not partial to any particular distro, so I was hoping to just put together a multiboot flash drive with a bunch of live images he could try. But I'm not sure what I should include, and what has live images, vs. install only images.

I'm most comfortable in an environment with apt, so Debian and Mint are of course already covered, but if the gaming-specific distros have live usb images, that would probably be the best thing for him to try.

If I'm injured and need a blood transfusion, where are paramedics most likely to go for the needle; is it the vein in my arm, same as for blood donation?

Wherever it is, if I get a tattoo noting my blood type, are you going to trust the tattoo and give me my blood type, or would you disregard it and go with O- just in case?

I'm getting some tattoo work done anyways, and I really like the idea of a Canadian Blood Services logo plus my blood type wherever paramedics would see it, but it's pointless if they won't believe it

When reading a web page within Connect, it would be nice if long-pressing on links in the webpage would give a popup with the option to open the link in an external browser (and probably also an option to just copy the link). I frequently find myself linked to Wikipedia from a Lemmy comment, and then want to open other links from that wiki page, so then I have to open the page I'm on externally and refind my spot in the article.

Having the same options when long-pressing a link in a comment/post would be nice as well.

Edit: there's already a setting for it, another user pointed it out. Ignore me :)

~~Currently, when you block an instance or community, it's blocked app-wide. I had blocked various NSFW communities and instances on my main account so that they don't show up in my All feed, but now I can't access them from my NSFW account unless I use a different app to do so, or repeatedly unblock and reblock them as needed.~~

~~Can we instead make block lists on a per-account basis (or have the option of account-associated or global blocking)?~~

The text when I try to type comments (but not the text in the search bar or, as I'm just now learning, here in the 'post body' text box) is white, and I can't find the setting to change it. Obviously I could change my background back to the default blue that it was, but that's the opposite of a solution.

Anybody know?
