Presidents work out their funeral plans in detail and they are held in archives. They can also be changed. The government pays for all of this.

Tradition says that all former President's and their spouses attend the state funeral. Tradition also says that Carter could invite anyone he wants, or not invite them.

The media had a big hand in Reagan being elected over Carter. Every newscast every night had a clock on the number of days the US hostages were held by the Iranians. This was a constant reminder on what was perceived as Carter's failure. So much so, that Reagan sent George Scholtz, to Iran to make a deal for them to keep the hostages until after the election. Which was the begining of Iran-Contra. Anyway, that was the real reason.

Again, the point is that he is the only one who beat Trump. You can form as many reasons for him dropping out and I'll probably agree with most of them, but that fact remains.

He was a Very Good Man! History will look back on him very well. RIP Jimmy Carter!
