No, you is the singular; y'all is the plural.

All y'all works because you might say "All of you all", I suppose.

It's still good where we are, is in a run down part of town, not generally even fast, technically, but still so good. Publix has good fried chicken too but the spicy Popeye's, so good and the only 'fast food' I will eat. Even french fries I generally just make oven fries now, but I never even try to make fried chicken.

Doesn't pot famously make food more enjoyable?

I agree, fast food is not worth what it costs. The reasonably quick food landscape has expanded though, we can get different things, better Mexican food, a Chinese fast to go place with some really good tasting stuff, a restaurant that advertises "curry in a hurry" even.

Popeyes is still good though.

Ha! It's flavorful as fuck actually with the mostly ancho assortment and tomatillos but the venn diagram in my family for people who like meat heavy meals and the people who like very spicy (as in picante) food doesn't have much overlap - me and the vegan are the only actual chiliheads.

When I make the vegetarian chili, it gets jalapenos, tomatoes, lots of bottled chili powder, some tinned chipotle powder, leftover very spicy salsa, sometimes beer or a splash of whiskey, I keep adjusting it until it seems like it will be good, then leave it to simmer or in the slow cooker. it's more of a refrigerator stew but always pintos, I don't like any other beans in there.

Ha, no they call it "meat" but of course there are chiles. Generally anchos & a guajillo and if I have one the smoked oaxacan pepper. rehydrated in the meat broth and blended with onion and roasted tomatillos, not tomato. It's really good I just cannot think of it as chili.

This depends. Qi-Gon Jinn saying "concentrate on the moment, feel don't think" oh my, and he does seem very dedicated and not so political.

But R2D2 gets it done. He is a great character every time he appears.

I compost (and save stuff for broth) and we have a sink disposal. It's for the little bits of cooked food left on plates, are you composting those? The sink that has one is the least cloggy kitchen sink I've ever had, and as far as I understand they are pretty neutral in terms of waste stream.

Grease I agree shouldn't go in there, that goes in the trash.

We have one, I like it. Never gross smelling, keeps the drains clear, seems to help the dishwasher run better.

The bras & underwear from Branwyn are great. The t shirts from Unbound are also fantastic, I haven't tried their athletic stuff. Other brands I've had mixed experiences with, the socks from Smartwool I do love.

It's hot here, not cold but Merino knits are remarkably comfortable all weather items.

I have not, but why not start by helping someone else cook, or inviting someone over to help you cook?

It does sound like an unhealthy obsession not an actual cooking problem but if it's more like you just never did it and have built it up in your head, perhaps taking small steps and seeing that your fears are not fulfilled will deflate them.

I agree you don't necessarily need to cook, assembling can go a long way, but if you want to cook that is a very good reason to cook!

I will say - as an experienced home cook, shit does (rarely) happen so maybe also taking a kitchen safety class and getting fire suppression equipment would help, practicing what to do if something does happen so you don't panic at a small fire and let it become a big fire when it would have been easy to put it out.

I would think this - I am old enough to have been on text Usenet newsgroups and dial up; but plenty of people my age seem to have collectively lost their mind.

I really love reading. When little, my mom said I read my way through the kids section in the library in like a year then moved on to the grownup side.

But then I had kids, and read magazines, short stories, and comics because I didn't have uninterrupted time.

Now, when I do have a book I read it while husband is watching TV, we both have entertainment time that way. If we go to the beach I bring the e-reader, and read on days off - still a lot of comics as I'm still busy, and I love them, but more library books than when the kids were kids.

You don't have to read books if you don't enjoy them! Everyone is different. I read really fast and effortlessly (learned to at the same time I was learning to speak, it's a language not a skill for me) so it's a better pace for me personally than other forms of entertainment.

But of my kids, fewer than half read for pleasure. There are so many other ways to use your time that are just as good for you or better.

The Esmeralda! Sort of! (self.cocktails)

Trying to design something for a party with an Asian stir fry, food ginger-garlic-soy-citrus flavors. Hostess requested St. Germain or Midori. She hates mezcal and smoky whiskey. So this is the Esmeralda but with bourbon and it's pretty good.

2 oz Leblon cachaca

.75 oz St. Germain

.5oz bourbon

Juice of one not very juicy lime

Simple syrup to taste (doesn't need as much as the original recipe)

Let one of my kids taste it and their only comment is that it could use a pinch of salt flavor (probably because it's missing the Islay it's too flat). I do have smoked Maldon, may try a grain of that next time, and lemon not lime - this doesn't hit so hard despite being mostly booze so I think I can evaluate one more today.

Welcome to dia de Chartreuse. What are you drinking today?

Mini cocktails (thelatch.com.au)

This is another trend I'm unsure of, but a flight of shot sized cocktails I've done at parties, sets of 4-5 drinks in tiny cups so we can sample more variations, then usually we have one round of the winner. I do these when working up recipes.

Please note the prices on the article are AUD not USD, so not as crazy as they look.

How do you feel about half sized or smaller drinks? Would you buy them? I feel like it's a good idea but they should come in a set, like a flight or a bunch of them for the table to share, like appetizers.

Join us in a smoky cocktail! Mezcal, or Islay, or smoked salt...Or if you are having a smoke today, whatever you like to accompany it!

What are you drinking this month?

Last of my dry Fridays so I'm out but having a ginger beer (not homemade, Reed's,). Diabetic coma in a glass. I will have to make some home fermented ginger beer soon, it's so much better.

Sadly Florida is getting boycotted by a lot of artists but I can't blame them. Maybe you will be more lucky. Go see some live music.

Maybe a little old for this community but goodness such a soulful gospel song. Holds up through time, just beautiful.

I have honestly never heard of a slushy gin & tonic, but this is a good idea in general. If you are going to dilute with blender and ice you don't want as much water in the mix.

Do you always follow a recipe for a cocktail, or do you mix freeform, or just have an idea of what works for your taste? For me, I like recipes but about 75% of the time I just use a 'formula' - I learned that I LOVE a paper plane but only with 2x bourbon. That led me to a better understanding of proportion. Almost everything I've made with 2 parts of a booze I like, 1 part a fruity or sweet liqueur, 1 part an Amaro and 1 part lemon or lime (using judgement to match the flavors) works. And because a margarita is great, taking those proportions and subbing other things can also work.

Now with food, I would say the only things I use recipes for are baked goods, I am very much in the wing it camp. Use recipes for inspiration not as a rulebook. So not a shock that's the way I drink.

How do you use recipes?
