A great local 20-year-old animation studio in my city had to close down when the quotas were dropped. All that amazing talent has now either moved overseas or to different industries, which I find quite sad. The dropping of local content quotas are huge but unseen blows to our sense of cultural identity, and makes it impossible for locals to cut their teeth in the television industry. Without quotas we may never have got a show like Bluey.

 

Say what you like about the show (and you'd probably be right), but one valuable thing Neighbours provides is a great place for aussie actors and crew to cut their teeth.

Jim Carrey, Steve Coogan, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Jimmy Stewart, Hugo Weaving, Kristen Wiig, Jemaine Clement, Will Ferrell, Kate McKinnon. Just looking at that list I realise I probably quite like comedy.
