X, Google, Amazon, you can pay for their services and still be the product. I am not sure if that rule is good in any direction anymore.

That is true, as it is true for payed services too. It isn't in any way impossible that user data of paying customers is sold. You either trust them, or you don't.

I have seriously no idea, but can you take them out easily? If not, it's a walled garden.
