It's also a naturally busy time for living organisms in the northern hemisphere. I've just got things going on, man.

This is one of the reasons I refuse to shop at my local Meijer stores. Their fucking registers are quick to accuse you of stealing something, and you're treated as guilty by the employees even if you try to prove that the machine is wrong.

I know more than one person who has had this experience, chiefly my sister who already has severe social anxiety. She won't step foot there again.

One has been banned since the first time she went because the employees confused her with someone that actually shoplifted. They called in the cops, who told her should be trespassed if she came back.

Fuck these systems.

I'll keep calling it Twitter until all of the branding is gone. My login notification email is the same as it has been. Blue bird and all.

No doubt. Ten years ago, that same phrase would've meant I had to decide between gas and food on Wednesday.

Now it's enough to pay the bills and tuition after we lost their income because of covid. I'm constantly teetering on overdrafts thanks to the financial obligations we have from when there was 40k more a year in the bank. Sure, it might not be for the same reasons, but it's a similar situation. It left me with no room for savings. You can be broke and make good money, due to situations beyond your control.

I came from three generations of broke people on both sides. It's not like I don't get it. Just decided to prioritize the betterment of someone I care about, and not remain in crushing debt for the rest of my life. I drive a 13 year old truck. My phone is 4 years old. We shop at discount grocery stores. I'm not just blowing it.

Point being, if I lived anywhere else but Ohio or some equally inexpensive state, I would have lost everything by now.

The only reason I still live in Ohio. My salary is almost double the median income, and I'm still just barely staying out of the paycheck to paycheck life while paying my spouses way through school. I wouldn't have been able to afford a house anywhere else with just my income and maintain what semblance of a life we do have.

The perks of living in the decaying rust belt I guess.

Can't wait to watch Linus fumble over the explanation of this one. I'm sure it'll just be a lot of deflection and not-so-subtle victim blaming, but at this point he needs to squirm. Can't pawn it off on "the new CEO."

I'm very conflicted about this. On one hand, it's kind of bullshit to take this level of action on something that can be handled on a case-by-case basis, when the need arises.

On the other hand, I'd prefer to see Lemmy avoid the reputation that Mastodon has garnered with the activities that are vastly under moderated there. With the size that some instances are reaching obviously there needs to be a level of discretion towards the content you will allow.

It's, however, a slippery slope from protecting the community to accepting bribes for exclusive access to your user base.

"Due to moral objections, we've decided to block this meme community. However here's an alternative that will show you advertisements disguised as funny memes! They even have most of the same content as the old one! Enjoy!"

Don't let that become reality.

Totally forgot about the complete back replacements like that! I'll take 5. . Week long battery life here I come.

Honestly, I'm all for it if it means bringing back ridiculously sized phone batteries with huge bumps that can act as a finger shelf. My note 2 with a 4200mah battery was a beast in 2013.

It'll hit equilibrium eventually. Not like this is something unusual for a platform that's making the rounds as the new and exciting thing.
