They cannot for now, old.reddit still drives a LOT of traffic for them and most of the reddit oldheads from what ive seen just use old reddit to surf the site, so if they're not stupid enough to drive a huge part of their userbase away from their shithole to sites like lemmy and turn into digg 2.0, I don't see old reddit dying for awhile but remember this is spez we're talking about in the end, the self proclaimed Elon fanboi, so I cannot expect any intelligent decision from him.

Seriously dude, some redditors like to jump onto a freaking conclusion without examining the situation correctly

My bro, read his comment correctly before jumping on conclusions like this, I'm not trying to shill him, but Google forces this consent dialog screen about ad tracking on to apps like these. Ruben is just enabling ads, he's not tracking your user data or anything, it's Google who is forcibly doing that. And tbh, it isn't FOSS, so you should know what you're getting into and that it will feature ads as the dev is trying to earn his livelihood and the only way to avoid them is by purchasing the ad removal.

All hail the European union

This is pretty much the only thing stopping me from using another app

I mean yeah, but we can't fault the guy, this app is probably his livelihood and he can't stop Google from requiring the aforementioned consent dialog

It's not rmayayo, Google requires this itself Read this comment: https://lemmy.world/comment/3804067
