Egregious is the perfect word, I can only add that the adds are offensively stupid as well, and loud. I've been clicking back and forth until the content comes on but now it's three times at least. I'll install one of these ad blockers now but the real problem still isn't solved. I'd love to leave the platform altogether but don't know of an alternative. I tried PeerTube at one point but that was a dumpster fire , at least at the time I peeked in.

The other thing I hate about YT is the obvious click baiting the platform does, over the creators wishes. If I'm not clicking on any of the videos, the thumbnail images get weirder and crazier until I just leave the whole mess. Anyone else noticed this? It's like they are convinced this will gain more engagement and maybe it does but I hate it and feel manipulated and degraded by it.

Very same here. I delivered pizza in Atlanta in 1988 and shared a two bedroom on Piedmont park for a total of 550.00 month. I was so worried about making it too lol. Now as a person 30 years in my field and making fair money , I am paycheck to paycheck with little ability to save. To be fair, I've started over a couple of times , divorce etc. Starting over is expensive and takes a long leveling off but this economy is adding a lot of time on it.

We (United States) were taught this in 1987 when I took drivers ed at school. When my oldest got her license there was no longer a driver's ed course. Must have cost more than the conservatives wanted to pay.

As if ..... Where's he going? That many feet changes nothing. I live in a city famous for leaving a lot of space between cars, there are memes about it. So for this thread I'll explain a couple of why's:

  1. Me personally , it became a habit when car jackings became a possibility. A less easy target mentality.
  2. Insurance is crazy high here and so ,as you mentioned, the not being forced into the car ahead of you .
  3. There have been multiple shootings in road rage in this city over the last year. Everyone kinda wants space and eyes on others or what may be happening, room to react or move. Also not into riding a cars bumper and maybe causing another incident.

I'm sure there are as many reasons as there are people, but these are the obvious ones.

People get news from meta? They should cancel all news access

12 years but honestly, I am glad the kerfuffle led me to Lemmy as well as other places I didn't know about. It seems there are many excellent alternatives who take the culture if their place seriously, which reddit never did. I get much more of a coffee shop discussion feel here.

I've become so cynical since 2016 my first thought after reading this part was " you get what you pay for I guess." I want to feel more empathy but all of us are adults here and responsible for our choices.

Duly noted, seems like everyone but me knew this! Growing up in the south , barefoot is very natural. I've done tons of stuff barefoot. However, once I've learned this, it will no longer be a pleasure I'll take part in. Glad you wrote that out because it's not something they put in the papers, so to say. It's damn sure not going to be shared by many people who like to live with their head up there ass so here I am, thank you!

I listened to a book recently that has this comment being closest to the actual truth. Survival of the Richest by Douglas Rushkoff It is an eye opener
