I think we will see the social web move back to a more decentralized environment, like it used to be, and the fediverse will be the center of it. Right now 90% of social interaction on the web is through giant public social media companies, whose sole drive is profit. Back in the day of forums and bbs the servers were run by enthusiasts who wanted to build a community. I think this "burn it to the ground for profits" movement we've seen from Twitter, reddit, YouTube, etc. will be a great thing for the web overall.
I'll stay. I've been looking for a reason to move off reddit for a long time. But there didn't seem to be a non political based exodus, until now. The TD stuff and voat seemed too political charged and only people of a certain political leaning left. As a result voat and the others were just all about American politics. This feels much more across the board, and so far I'm loving the Lemmy community.
