It's an outdated attitude. When I was in highschool I knew of a handful of classmates who were apartment hunting for their 18th birthday. Some parents thought it was best to get the kid out of the craddle as fast as possible so they could start facing the real world. Others, their parents hated being parents and wanted the kid out. Keep in mind that back then a highschool student with a decent part time job that gave over a dozen or so hours a week could just barely afford a starter apartment, but it was doable. Now that same job wouldn't be enough to cover the electricity bill. Today it's an incredibly heartless thing to do to a teenager.
Privacy
It's okay to feel two things. I feel bad that something tragic happened, but also good that it couldn't have happened to a worse person. I don't know anything about his kids and I don't want to. I hope his kids leave the spotlight and have a happy, peaceful life. Of course if they choose to follow in their fathers footsteps deals off, but if they just choose to live quiet, small lives like the rest of us they should be given peace.

Not just parents dying but kids too. It was this guy's responsibility to make sure the people who managed the company would refuse as much life saving care for children as possible. I do not endorse anyone to commit murder ever, but I won't be shedding any tears when a monster like that is shot down. I do think it's okay to feel some sympathy for his kids, but they're wealthy. They'll probably be okay in time.

So this maybe kills the joke, which made me laugh. In my personal experience, most engineers are part scientists, and scientists who study engineering are part engineers. I can say that at least a small handful of the scientists I've met who study engineering may not really understand why engineers use a specific safety margin for a specific purpose, they understand practically that it's because no one wants to come close to a things tolerance. Especially when public safety is concerned.

Is he though? Isn't one of the purposes of presidential pardons to protect a person from unjust political persecution. If Republicans weren't Trump's party I would agree it's nepotism, but it is Trump's party who will be in power. Trump has vowed to seek revenge on his opponents. Joe Biden is too old to really be punished as much as the Republicans want him to be, but Hunter Biden has many years left. MAGA Republicans could punish him for their hate of his father for at least four years, if not the rest of his life. Isn't that one of the purposes of a presidential pardon?

True but through buying Twitter he also obtained the ability to suppress other people. Xitter hasn't been replaced as the global town square. It's starting to become obvious that a lot of the accounts of people who directly criticize Musk, or say things he and his buddies don't like will be suspended. There's no way he could keep his money and stifle other people's free speech, because that's what he bought. He didn't buy Twitter, he bought complete control over the ability to suppress speech in the global town square.
