More accurately, they treat us how they treat other cats. They haven't been bred to do otherwise like dogs have. It doesn't mean they think we're cats.

The issue is more likely that taxes aren't being used in ways that benefit the public, like they are in other countries. But also many Americans don't want that because grrr filthy socialism
Just look it up. And we should need taxes for it, because that's what taxes are (at least they should be) for.
Reddit has the money to fight a legal battle. Volunteers running a site off donations do not. They don't want to take risks and that's understandable

If you want something budget for a mouse, I got the darmoshark m3. It's only $43, 58 grams, works wired, with a dongle, and through Bluetooth, 1000 hz polling rate, and it works out of the box with no software required. It has buttons on the bottom of the mouse to switch DPI and polling rate. Just make sure you set it to 1000 hz since it's set to 500 hz by default I believe
