When people have already decided to buy something, it feels bad to be asked for money a second time

Sounds like a functional difference to me that impacts the transaction. And the psychology involved is more than that because most people are manipulated by the up front prices and don't properly factor in the more hidden secondary fees. Not to mention that when it comes to tips this second ask is technically voluntary and just against social and moral expectations to refuse, so it essentially rewards the people who don't care about the employees and refuse it.

I don't use much social media and have things set up to block most ads. So maybe I just don't get how bad it is out there. But in my experience with Youtube I've thought it generally does a decent job at recommending me videos based on what I've watched and who I'm subbed to. For example, if I stumble across some documentary about an aircraft accident, I'm not upset when it starts recommending me other similar videos from that channel or videos from other channels and their similar documentaries. I've found good videos I'd never have seen that way.

It can get frustrating if you accidentally end up watching a video about something you normally don't want to see, but the newer recommendations seem to fade away after a few days of not watching them. And I can certainly see how such a system can be gamed in nefarious ways. I never liked when I saw Reddit sub recommendations, but I mostly thought that was because their system didn't recommend me things I had any interest in.

He did concede at the end that he was broken and not only was going to say there were 5 lights, he even believed there were 5.

I get it if it really hurts your ability to figure out what they are saying. Since the whole point of written text is to convey something. That's when it does matter. But I don't think that was the case in that comment and it was quite easy to figure out what they were saying. I'd guess most people reading it wouldn't even notice it (I didn't until I saw the rude reply). And when it doesn't impact understanding what they said, I think it's really nitpicky to call them out.

I wish we'd learn the lesson that manipulating other countries often ends up in people being reactionary and turning toward religious nationalism to fight back against the foreign enemy. This government is in power because of Western governments' actions. And then supporting a brutal proxy war against them and trying to isolate them internationally after that failed sure hasn't helped. It just fuels the reactionaries.

I personally don't want it and there are other types of forums that are organized around users rather than topics. But I wouldn't be upset if the option was there as long as it had an option to turn it on and off.
