I wonder if this is the establishment throwing an obvious problem actor under the bus in order to say, “Look we’re doing something!” It can’t be that hard to find a replacement for Gaetz who is better aligned with the party’s values (on the surface, at least) with less problems. He was an easy target, because he was gloating to congress members about these acts.

Also, he’s a miserable person who should see justice for this shit. Whether it happens in America… different story, unfortunately.

Our financial advisor gave us these tips:

  • Don’t create excessive overhead for managing money. Ideally, you know your monthly expenses, put all the money to cover them in a bill account. That money doesn’t exist and comes out with automatic payments. What remains is “carefree” money that you should enjoy.
  • Work towards a new $0. This is for building a safety buffer. You pretend $250 is $0. When you get to $250 in the bank, you start to watch your finances much closer to figure out how to not spend. Then next month, you make the new $0 as $275. By doing this, you get in a better habit of saving.
  • Take company matches on 401K & other benefits if you can use them. This should be more money you pretend doesn’t exist because the long term gains are very good compared to the short term outcomes of more money now.
  • Have forcing functions built into your calendar for reviewing finances. Once a week, once a month. You shouldn’t stress about money constantly, but you shouldn’t be unaware either.
  • As others have said, there’s a big mental & emotional component to doing this work & having the self discipline needed.
  • Always pay off the Credit Card balance. Always.
  • …No seriously, do not carry CC debt…

I’ve had life style issues 3 times in my life, which I’m really fortunate for honestly. You only get lifestyle creep from growing means & a failure to adjust your situation. It’s significantly harder for many people in our modern world to do some of these steps because people are already paycheck to paycheck. If you get a raise, it’s a blessing (I’m a UU), but you got to use it for good, whether that’s your security or the security of others.

“Fuck Reddit” is why I’m here, bud. Going to be harder for corpos to control a federated internet. Stop going there and giving them KPIs.

Growing up with these movements, it felt like the Occupy Movement could have been that, but it was smeared by The Powers That Be alongside infighting or a focus on strange parliamentary procedure. It helps with cops also are on your side (Tea Party).

I don’t think the left makes enough persistent noise at their leadership compared to the right. I’m really proud of the recent strike announcements from Unions & hope they stick through the tough shit.

I volunteer in municipal work on a town board local to me. It’s not much, but there’s a few chuckleheads “from the private sector” that think they know everything in five minutes. If you put hard facts and actually argue them in proper settings with conviction, you can at least have a voice in the bullshit around you.

Even if Trump loses in court, his willingness to launch lawsuits "creates a chilling effect," Melissa Camacho, a communications professor at San Francisco State University, told AFP.

Camacho?! The famed great grandmother of future President Camacho? /satire

That’s above the table before all the bribes and pocket lining. 🤑 Yay, money! 🇺🇸 /satire

This shit is so backwards. People are getting blackmailed competitively by this guy in broad daylight. I know it died long ago, but it was the death of liberty when we introduced MTX/P2W politics—fuck Citizens United.

This might be true, but it’s not aligned with the posted article: it highlighted how Latino & Asian voters went to the right because they saw the democrats as ineffectual and as Trump spouting rhetoric instead of legit policy. It also noted how older immigrants saw “new immigrants” as somehow ‘worse mannered’ than them.

The GOP strategy has long been “block Dems” in order to make the federal systems look ineffectual at helping: that’s what happened, at least to these voters in this article.

As a person who grew up in American schools post-Columbine, with kids in schools now, and none of us are CEOs, this is probably the take that saddens me most about this whole event. It’s our kids, and the argument used to be about freedom. Soon, we won’t even have that. What was the fucking point? (Rhetorical: profit)

I know we’re all alive at a special time in humanity. We think we’re so civilized. Then I look around, and it’s the same history playing on repeat. When do the monkeys figure out it’s one species? (Rhetorical again: 😬)

It’s 4 years until the next scheduled bullshit, whether that’s a third term, eradicating the constitution, or bringing about the end of America / the west / humanity. We could all go up sooner, but I expect Bo Burnham’s “7 more to go,” to somehow be right (came out in 2021, so 2028 seems about right).

We lost freedoms during Bush, carried on by every president since. I guess we’ll see what happens to the machinations next…

Thanks for the updoots & the fish. Hope it was a good ride.

Yeah, I don’t mean to be pessimistic, but given all the knee bending, I don’t have much hope for the next 4 years and beyond when it comes to freedom. I don’t think most MAGA people have respect for the constitution or law & order. That respect seems to be eroded.
