I think we all know the answer to why the cost of college has grown exponentially - because they're able to get federally guaranteed student loan money.

But you know that part. So, keep thinking it through to its conclusion.

For several generations, we pushed ever-increasing loans that cannot be discharged even in bankruptcy onto students who were all being told unequivocally that they must go to college in order to not be failures at life, all the while allowing colleges to continue increasing their profits, causing a massive debt crisis that is now having an economic crippling effect on those several generations of people who are also facing other economic crises like the housing market being bought up by rental companies and the mass inflation that companies chose to enact and keep in place even after the pandemic-related supply chain issues subsided.

These millions of people will not be able to afford housing or sometimes basic necessities like the generations that came before them. If they were all gathered in one state and were being similarly economically affected by a natural disaster, we'd waste no time in sending federal aid, FEMA, and the national guard and not think twice about it. However, this isn't a natural disaster. As you already know, we caused it with our reckless student loan system that funnelled money into colleges' coffers and left these people poorer for it, with a diploma that is ever increasingly worth less in a world where all it might get you is a minimum wage job.

But nah, I'm sure we can just ignore it all and tell those slackers and "underwater basket weavers" to pay their bills. /s

Would you then advocate that no one should ever use the words "idiot", "moron", or "cretin" ever again? What about "dumb", or "stupid"?

(edit) - People are fun. They actually believe that no human should ever want to throw insults at another human ever again. Fascinating.

Does having a pihole somehow stop people from posting AMP links?

I don't know that they're even trying. They don't give a shit what poor young people think, and their asshole supporters parrot that "they don't deserve it" and "they should've known better before they took the loan"... completely ignorant of the massive economic crisis the nation is facing because of it.

I didn't quite realize that, figured that when you were viewing another instances' content it was loading from that instance. I guess that means that Lemmy content across all instances has loads of redundant copies.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting what you're saying, but lemmy.one has basically no content on it other than the 8 communities that @jonah has created or allowed there. The whole point of that server is to allow people to simply login and then participate in other instances from there.

That is all to say, lemmy.one would be one of the "smaller" instances from a standpoint of content to be indexed by Google.

Correct. Ultimately it's up to each person how much they want to extend themselves into the Fediverse. You really can't follow everything everywhere all the time, so you need to pick what you want your feed to consist of.

I've subscribed to any redundant tech / IT security related communities no matter how many of them there are, because I always want to stay current on any news that could impact the network environment I manage.

On the other hand, I like seeing some memes, but [email protected] will absolutely flood your front page if you subscribe to it, so I stick to a few smaller meme subs like [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected].

Everyone's going to say No, and "just subscribe to the most active one", but if you're a 'Fediverse completionist' and want to ensure that there's not a single thing you miss anywhere at any time, then the answer is Yes.

I'd bet they reacted like they did specifically because the person is a minor - a minor who is in the care of the airline and who they're responsible for until they reach the intended destination. If the final flight arrived without the minor on it without it being intended, they would most certainly have some level of liability for the minor's whereabouts.

Just buy Rtic, same quality and their stuff costs half as much as Yeti.

Yep. It's because assholes who cry about "free speech" tend to not understand this - https://xkcd.com/1357
