Part of the problem with our society is people are so quick to throw perfectly functional shit away because advertisements of all sorts convince them that there is something better out on the market now and that what they have is outdated. The quality of products as a whole have gone to shit because people would rather buy cheap knockoff garbage every 6 months and throw it away than buy a quality product that, with some care and attention, could last decades. I've had a lot of luck over the years being patient and browsing all the sites like craiglist, Facebook marketplace, etc and buying the few remaining top-of-the-line brands second-hand (or sometimes even for free) and making it new again. I'll get off my soapbox now.
A way to combat supporting the asshole directly is to find and buy one second hand. Even swapping out a simple part for <$50 can extend an $800 vacuum cleaner by several years.
Less plastic production
Yeah, maybe it was an issue in first iterations but it's also been seamless with my pixel 7 traveling in many countries with many SIM swaps
Arborvitae
The demand for oil is still going to remain as long as people are driving cars, powering their homes via grids using nonrenewables, etc. Suing big oil is only ever going to be a necessary fee they'll be willing to pay and is never going to solve anything. We need more people installing solar panels, pushing for public transit, getting rid of their ICE vehicles or driving less, consuming less meat, etc. People deserve their fair share of the blame. Realistically, I don't see that happening either and just try not to think about the fact that I've lost hope for humanity.
I was diagnosed at 30 with ADHD after having dealt with it my entire life. Seeing all these parallels since then has been crazy. Makes me wonder if I am also on the spectrum and whether or not it's worth pursuing more to find out. Honestly don't know.
It really does surprise me how so many people (at least on Reddit and Lemmy) care so deeply about a headphone jack.
