The problem is that in my country those drawings are legally the same thing as child porn. As I said in the OP, I'm not making a moral judgement here, but as a purely practical matter that content is concerning to me.

Thats good to hear, will edit the OP to add it. I do think my post is a fair representation of the original update though.

In my mind there's a big difference between NSFW and child porn, and where I am, that content is considered to be child porn. I'm happy to deal with filtering NSFW content for myself, but I don't want to risk CP.

The reason I phrased the OP as a question was that I suspect most users here will have a similar view to me and be in favor of blocking servers hosting CP. If that isn't the case I'll happily go find another instance, I don't want to enforce my boundaries on everyone else.

The problem with that approach is that it puts users here in legal jeopardy. Right now if I browse "All" rather than "Local" I'm risking jail time

I've been browsing through new as a way of finding communities to join. The NSFW stuff in that feed is unideal but easy enough to ignore, whereas content that could send me to jail is a whole different ballgame.

I see this behaviour too, without a URL checker app

I wouldn't bother with the concept of de-federation in a beginners guide. One of the most confusing bits of the fediverse to new users is picking a server. For most users, the one they pick doesn't really matter, but talking about defederation makes it sound like a really important choice.

What phone are you using?

Pixel 6a with Graphene OS

Are you happy with it? What are its best and worst qualities?

Yes. It does everything I need in a phone. Good things: fast CPU, long security updates, well supported by third party ROMs. Bad things: too big

Which phones have you had previously? Which were the best and worst of the lot?

Nexus 4, Moto X, Oneplus 3t, Pixel 3a

I liked all of them. The Moto X felt nicest in the hand. The 3t was the most flagship-y when I got it, probably the best build. The glass back on the Nexus made me nervous but wireless charging in a phone that cheap was awesome.

How often do you upgrade to a new phone?

Used to be every 2-3 years cos that's what I could afford, now its every 2-3 years cos phones don't change that much. Only upgraded from the 3a because it stopped getting secuirty updates.

My next phone will probably be a clamshell folding phone. The new RAZR looks like its cheap enough and folding phones are exciting in a way that new phones used to be.

What other Android ecosystem devices do you have? Watches, headphones/earbuds, etc.

Pixel Buds Pro. They're great, I didn't realise how much having a tiny case would change how I use headphones. I had the Sony ones before, but only carried them when I knew I'd use them. I carry the pixel buds everywhere and it means I use them more.

Do you also use any Apple products, or are you Android all the way? (And/or Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, etc.)

Linux on my devices, all the above on work devices

e.g. shell=True allows you to pass the command as a single string

Don't do this. As the article says its much better to split the string using shlex and avoid the risk of shell injection vulnerabilities.
