Genuine question, what do you think it means to be shunned? Everyone in this thread is responding to you. We're talking to you. We're reading your opinions and sharing our own in response. This direct interaction with you is the opposite of being shunned.

Do you maybe mean people disagree with you and are sharing their disagreements in comments and votes? Because this confuses me too. How isn't this exactly what you want? Some people agree with you and others don't. We're all allowed to talk about our opinions too. No one is turning you away.

I feel like I’m the only one with open eyes and ears here.

If you are then you must recognize how the things you're saying don't make sense right now. You can't both be shunned and continue to be in communication with those that shun you.

I only shun if people say stupid things. Why can’t it be the same from everyone.

I see this and I think "this is a person who would 'shun' me if I said something they deem stupid. They think my opinions are stupid. Therefore I expect to be shunned." I'm very confused by this. If I were to say your opinions are stupid, that gives me the right to shun you, as you suggest, so I don't think you can complain if you believe we're doing exactly what you're asking, no?

However, we aren't shunning you. We are communicating. You are suggesting that you have the right to "shun" us as soon as you see something stupid. That seems wholely hypocritical and unfair. If fairness is what you're after, you must realize this.

I don't want to fight either, and I prefer civil, rational discussions. So please say what you really mean here. Otherwise you're literally asking that we 'shun' you as per your own comment. The things you say don't make logical sense (stupid) and we should shun stupid. I don't think that's very fair, but those are the rules you're suggesting here.

My favorites based on usage:

  1. 7Zip. It's clean and has a lot of convenient features.

  2. Bitwarden. I have too many accounts these days. It's a life saver and it's on all my devices!

  3. Rufus Formatting tool. This rules. It's great for just formatting or creating a bootable USB. Not to mention it's portable so I can bring it with me to work.

Something I've always wanted in Starbound is something like a captains log. Yes I can take notes elsewhere, but it would be really nice if there was UI to organize my experiences and history as I bop around the universe. The bookmarking method isn't all that helpful.

I used to play a lot of Starbound, but this is actually what's holding me back. I want a little more roleplaying as a space explorer and I'd love collecting planet data in a better UI.

It was fun to do! It's fun to see everyone's impressions on how an episode should feel.

Let's write an episode of Frasier, one line at a time!

Thanks to everyone that joined in! The first scene of our episode has concluded! This was a fun experiment and I think overall it went great! It's at least a very believable plot so far with some excellent lines that genuinely made me laugh. I can't say the same for our characters, however. I've left the full scene's script at the bottom of this post.

  • What will become of our rhyme bustin' L.L. Cool Fred?
  • How will the household manage the chilly winter storm?
  • How will the household handle the always chilly Lilith?
  • Will Daphne ever finish her puzzle and save the London transit system?

Find out next time on Lets Write An Episode!

After a surprise snowstorm, Seattle is snowed in! Niles has separated from Maris and is spending some time at his brother's apartment for company. He and Frasier are in the kitchen, Martin and Eddie are watching TV, and Daphne is doing a puzzle at the table.

There is a knock at the door...

Martin "Daphne, would you mind getting that?"

Daphne "Hold on, hold on. I've just about put the London Bridge back together."

Daphne places another piece of her puzzle then scurries to answer door

Lilith, damp from the snow, enters. Frasier and Niles emerge from the kitchen

Frasier “Lilith! What are you doing here?"

Niles “Well this explains the cold front.”

Audience laughs

Lilith "As much as I'd like to return with a clever quip back to you Niles, I'm here on serious business. Frasier, it's about our son."

Fraiser "Freddy? Has he been hurt? Oh, I knew that sending him to Sonnet Camp over Christmas break was asking for trouble!"

Lilith “No, Frasier. This problem is much worse. Fredrick insists that he is not going to college.”

Martin "Well, nothing wrong with that. I never went to college, and look how I turned out."

Fraiser Frantically "Sherry, Niles?!"

Frasier Nervously pouring drinks for Lilith, himself, and a visibly devastated, nearly catatonic Niles "Dear god, but Frederick has always had academic aspirations. Remember when he was six years old and he wanted to dress as Archimedes for Halloween? What on earth could he possibly wish to pursue now?"

Lilith "He wants to be a rapper."

Niles Visibly confused "He wants to work at the mall?"

Frasier "Not a gift wrapper, Niles."

Martin "You mean like that MC Hammer guy?"

Lilith "Precisely."

Niles "I wonder what Freddy’s pseudonym would be? MC Escher, perhaps."

Daphne "Well I think it’s wonderful! A sensitive young artist exploring his talents. More of our young people could stand to bring a bit of art into this world."

Lilith "He says you inspired him, Frasier, with your career in show business."

Frasier Outraged "Show business?! I am not some vaudeville performer! I am a doctor! I went to medical school!"

Martin “Didn’t stop you from being on radio, did it?”

Niles “Yes Frasier, perhaps your dalliance with the glamour of the airwaves sent the wrong message about a career in the sciences.”

Frasier paces around the room in distress

Frasier “I have not spent decades of my life fostering a love of knowledge in my son just so he can–“

Martin: "Oh, pshaw. Let the boy do what he wants with his life. Do you remember that summer where Niles was convinced that he should become an acrobat? It's a phase! I'm sure Freddy will grow out of it once he realizes that he's no MC Eastwood."

Lilith "But Frederick is quite adamant about his choice! I would not brave an arctic maelstrom to visit my ex-husband if I thought this was simply a phase. Loathed as I am to admit it, I… I can’t handle this alone.”

Frasier Smiling, warmly clasps Lilith’s shoulders, and moves in for a hug “You’re not alone. We can brave this storm together.”

The power flickers out as the wind howls outside

Frasier “Both the metaphorical… and literal.”

I don't think this looks very good, but if we want a fighting chance, we can definitely do two things:

  1. We need to make using other instances of Lemmy and kbin extremely easy. Seamless. Two taps on your phone simple. Sign up with Google. All that jazz. Then the most basic user will have an easier time choosing a non-Threads instance.

  2. We need to, ironically I guess, advertise our LACK of advertisements. No matter how they do it, I'd bet anything Treads will integrate ads somehow, so this is a way we can quickly stand out.

On another note, users will want to go where the content lives. Of course, that makes this much more difficult. We all know Threads will be big, almost immediately. So, should we defederate with Threads like many of us are planning? This will keep us "safe" but we'll lose all the new content. Or should we instead remain federated to keep seeing the content? Of course this doesn't stop Threads from defederating from us themselves, so I truly don't know the answer.

No matter what, I think we need to stand out to average social media users in a big way. I think my two points above are just a start, though. We need to offer more.

I don't have high hopes, but I'm planning to fight like hell for our little paradise in any way I can.

I think a lot of "both siders" haven't had their lives - threatened by the government.

It's easy to understand if the most important thing anyone has ever tried to take from us is, say, a gun, but once they start talking about taking our homes, our bodies, our jobs, our futures, our families, or maybe our lives, then we get a very clear picture. This is really really big for some people and it's very obvious which side is threatening their lives, not just their things.

All we can do is share our experiences with others and hope they can try to put themselves is our shoes. It's clear to me which of these sides wants me barefoot and pregnant at home in the kitchen, too poor to leave my husband. Laws are starting to be passed that are driving us in that direction. Sure, you could say "they aren't going to go that far", but they sure are talking about it. And I don't know about you, but if someone in government stands on a stage and talks about harming me and then a crowd cheers for them, I feel like it's pretty damn real.

I just ask that you try to understand that it's so much more dire for some folks, and "both sides" is no longer a good position to take.

Let's write an episode of Frasier, one line at a time! Another day, another line. Today, we get a look at Freddy's possible future. Reboot material?

Unfortunately, I don't think I have ADHD so I won't be able to answer that portion of the question, but I can answer them as an INTJ. Prepare for a wall of text ahead.

--Relaxing for me involves getting deeply into something. Be that a TV show, video game, YouTube rabbit hole, or even a neat Excel Spreadsheet. As long as I can reach that "flow" state, I feel very relaxed.

--I used to be a huge insomniac as a kid. I took me hours to fall asleep. Nowadays, I don't have very much trouble. I think having a pretty strict nighttime routine helps with this. By having a "plan" already in place, I can unwind a little while I mindlessly go through my routine and my body just seems to know when to go to sleep. This helped me a lot back when I was in college.

--Motivation is a place where I'm lacking. I am excellent at coming up with grand ideas and plans, but I'm awful with the initial execution. I found when it's something I particularly don't like (chores for example), I can actually get started by never slowing down to begin with. So for example, I know if I come home from work and sit down, I will not have the motivation to do much of anything. I have already shifted my mind from "work mode" to "chill mode" and that's hard to reverse. The easiest way to get those annoying chores done is to do them before I have a chance to shift into that "chill mode". If I have errands to run on a Saturday, I do it as soon as I'm up and dressed, and I do that as soon as I'm awake. If I take any time to relax with breakfast or a book, there is no convincing me to go out. because of this, I've accidentally become a bit of a morning person.

I think getting to know your own weaknesses like this can help you "hack" your own brain. I try to trick myself into doing things I really don't want to on a regular basis.

--This one I don't think I can answer fully. Just as you describe, I get very obsessed with things. I have approximately 1000 hobbies at this point and I'm sure I'll find a new one tomorrow. I've just come to accept that part of my psyche. I embrace it fully and enjoy the time I spend feeling excited about a new topic.

As for the focus portion of your question, I don't think I fully relate. Like I mentioned above, I can get into a flow state and really put all my energy into one thing sometimes, but usually, I'm multitasking in my mind. Right now, I'm listening to a YouTube video, typing this message, brainstorming about a Jeopardy category, and I know exactly where in the house my partner is right now by the sounds of his footsteps. It's creepy, but it's my norm. So my brain is typically running at high capacity 25 hours a day, as you put it, but it's usually because I'm focused on so many different things at once. And hey, I kind of like it like that!

--I am extremely fortunate to not have an addictive personality. I know it's a blessing and I thank my genes for it often. That being said, I do get "addicted" to things for extended periods of time. For example, I've been getting the same espresso drink just about every day for probably over a year now. It can't be good for me, but I do find it hard to resist. But knowing me, in a few months I'll hit "the wall" with it, and feel a little bored. At that point, I'll need to shake things up a bit.

[–] CosmicCat 47 points 2 years ago (5 children)

I found this to be really confusing. On the one hand, they're losing so much revenue from 3rd party app users. On the other hand, 0.0001% of redditors use 3rd party apps. You can't have it both ways, spez.

The next line will be decided Friday, June 30 at 9:00pm EST.

Another tie! I can make it work.

I propose we play a new game! I'm not sure how it'll pan out, but it's worth a shot! Let's write an episode of Frasier, one line at a time! Now I say episode, but let's just start with an opening scene for now. If it's a success, we can do more!

This could get messy so here are some rules to start:

  1. We'll add 1 new line each day
  2. Top comment will get added to the scene!
  3. Lines can include: a. A spoken line by a character (or perhaps a short exchange between a few characters to speed things up) b. A stage direction c. Relevant scene details

The first line will be decided Thursday, June 29 at 9:00pm EST.

I'll start by setting the scene:

After a surprise snowstorm, Seattle is snowed in! Niles has separated from Maris and is spending some time at his brother's apartment for company. He and Frasier are in the kitchen, Martin and Eddie are watching TV, and Daphne is doing a puzzle at the table.

There is a knock at the door...

Okay, I'm seeing a tie for the top two comments so I'll incorporate them both!

As most of you, I assume, I've moved on from Reddit. However, /r/Frasier was one of the subs I was most worried about losing. Thank you all so much for starting our community on Lemmy!

Here's to possibilities!
