Ah, whoosh on my part. I didn't want to assume anybody's background or understanding!πŸ˜…πŸ˜†

Etymology is for word origins😊 But if you like bugs, you're looking for entomology! There seems to be a cool community over here: [email protected]

Love Mad Men. Now that was a beautiful pitch. Jon Hamm killed it!

From Greek etumos "true, real" + -logia "study of" πŸ€—

Yay! I started a community over on Squabbles for a bit, and it was primarily another mod and I posting content. Unfortunately they went MIA, so I've been bummed out about that because they were pretty active lol. Tried to find an etymology community on Lemmy, so I joined the Kbin one, after which I realized it was a bit dead and there was no one running it. So here we are. :)

Awesome!😁

Ah! I should've explained that. Johannes Hofer, who coined the term, basically translated German heimweh ("homesickness," home + woe) into Latin nostalgia.

I'd say focus on sharing etymology findings for now. I'm not some linguistics professor or anything – just an amateur who created this community for fun. Maybe we could sustain more question posts once there are enough knowledgable subscribers to answer them. (I'm hoping some experts would discover the community actually, and maybe hop on as mods). :)

Edit: I just updated the community rules so clarify that question posts are allowed, as long as you please attempt to at least Google it yourself first. πŸ˜†

And on the main highway like they did! Not even on the bus tour. Very cool.

So awesome to see Bathory on here. I love Hammerheart. A must listen for any lover of the Viking metal genre and so raw - literally recorded out of a garage.

Here's a good read by Quorthon (songwriter) from the Blood and Ice sleeve notes. He talks a lot about the recording process of Hammerheart as well: http://bathory.freehosting.net/blood_on_ice_intro.html
