Dying being an alchemist is like dying because you forgot to look both ways before crossing the street, in other words, I was a bad alchemist...

"Allow me to demonstrate! No hesitation!"

This really shouldn't be news to anyone, coverage surrounding this has been happening for quite some time, and I really don't think its going away, people in my neighborhood still have these dystopian cameras installed, chances are they don't care, all you can do is protect yourself by using local only cameras and perhaps wearing a hat / sunglasses like the reflectacles that will block infrared so your eyes can't be seen, and keep conversations away from these things.

Since 1.19.2 minecraft servers now have a way to report users directly to Mojang, while this might sound good, the community has been very up in arms about this and the data concerns that come with it. Assuming you plan on moderating your own server, I believe there is a way to disable this feature server side in the configuration.yml file in your server folder. It may be wise to use older versions if you believe this to be an issue. Depending on your userbase and if you plan on having mods on your server, there are client side mods that will help ease some of the data concerns, like disabling the chat report feature mentioned earlier. You may also look into encrypting chat messages although this requires both server and client side software for all players that you plan on having join, and since you mentioned its people you don't know, its unlikely that people would be willing to install any mods unless you already plan on the server being modded anyway.

Yeah for sure, usually if it doesn't "just work" or if its not convenient or they just "don't want to" then it'll be hard to convince anyone, getting all my family to move from standard SMS to signal was hard, there was no real barriers yet it was still too inconvenient to switch, even with all the benefits it offers. The two biggest issues I've seen so far is the "sub-lemmys" or just communities that exist, multiple similar communities can co-exist and have separate users, which isn't good for growth. The second issue, and by far the most worrying currently, is performance and stability with the instances that currently exist. Already we're seeing the main lemmy.ml instance being brought down to its knees with all the new users. If reddit doesn't reverse their API decision by the 12th (which at this point seems unlikely considering all the backlash already with no response) then I can't imagine how bad it would be to see even a 10th of current active reddit users trying to join at once. Its an ticking time bomb with a very quick expiration date if its not addressed quickly. I do have hope however, although my programming experience is somewhat limited a threw a few bucks on the opencollective, which I suggest everyone do if you wanna contribute in some way and you believe in the idea of a more open free internet, circa the late 90s.

Yeah as a lurker on Reddit (I use libreddit) I really wanna see some change for the better, Fediverses' seem to be the future, we just need to get the general masses aware of its presence :)

I feel between two and three here. I don't have a thinkpad, but i'd love to live in a cabin for sure though.
