I'm waiting to hear back from a job and chomping at the bit to leave because they offer a hybrid work schedule (3 home/2 office). It's a 6% pay bump (from $80k to $85k) but being able to work from home 3 days a week is such a big plus (and not having to manage anyone being the other) makes it worth it for me. Not to mention that I can cash out all the vacation time that I've accrued. I'm sitting on 287 hours of vacation time right now so that would be roughly $10.9k paid out when I leave. I asked them if I could cash some out earlier this year but was told "no but if you leave the company, you'll still get paid out so don't worry about losing it". Well guess I'll be leaving the company then. I rolled over 218 hours so it's not like it wasn't time I didn't have accrued. I also have 300 hours of sick time and 41 hours of weather time too. Those won't get paid out though.

I worked from home for over a year and we had our best year in commercial lending as a credit union while everyone was home. Now everyone needs to be in the office every day. Yeah, no thanks.

Inkjet might be cheaper to buy the device but you'll pay out the ass for ink. Toner just lasts so much longer. I haven't bought toner since 2019.

I've seen reviews saying that a firmware update stopped 3rd party ink/toner from working. Both myself and my mom have Brother printers that we love and have used for years. It's disappointing and they're great printers but I don't want to pay a premium on toner/ink just because. But yeah, as @cerberus_cat said, refillable ink is good too if you need an ink jet printer but I don't know why anyone would want ink over laser.

Brother is no longer allowing 3rd party ink and toner too so do your research there as well.

Here's the thing. I don't know if it will get a massive amount of usage. Lemmy is fine right now but not having the userbase that reddit has is brutal. I want to talk sports with people but all the sports communities are dead. If I look at an Orioles community the game threads have 12 comments all by bots giving pitching/scoring updates.

Just like a Hippo and a Zippo. One's really heavy and the other's a little lighter.

Right? If the hardware is in the vehicle, there's no additional cost for them to enable it on all vehicles. If they want to have a way to offer vehicles for cheaper to increase sales, they're not saving any money by doing it the way they are. They're just saving on not having to make multiple models. But if that's the case, just give everyone the damn heated steering wheel if it's installed in the car.

How much color printing are you doing? We went with a B&W Laser because we didn't feel like paying the premium to move to a color laser printer but we don't do enough printing in color to really justify it either. Usually if we want something in color, it's photos to put in frames so it makes more sense to just send them to wallgreens or shutterfly or someting like that. If it's documents we need in color, we just send them to staples. It's not frequent enough and the money we save on just using toner (haven't bought toner since 2019) makes up for any small cost increase per page on color prints.

I have a brother B&W laser printer but for anyone looking for a new printer, be wary of brother. Their latest firmware stops the allowance of 3rd party toner/ink cartridges. It's disappointing because I've been a big proponent of theirs for years. Haven't bought toner since 2019 on our printer.

Our oldest (tuned 18 in Dec) wanted to register to vote right away and was voting in midterm elections this spring. Our youngest is 17 and he's already looking forward to being able to vote in the presidential election next year. It seems like them and their friends are absolutely wanting to get out and vote and they're all very much liberal and we're in a county in PA that was Trump +16 in 2020.

I don't have the most overpowered PC. I just have a small little desktop (Minisforum UM700) and Linux runs a whole lot better on it. My work also was giving out some old laptops that they were retiring (still better devices than my laptop which was a Lenovo T420) but they came without an operating system. I've always enjoyed using Linux but never made the full change because I would need MS Office and switching from Excel to LibreOffice Calc was just annoying. Since I didn't need to do work on my personal PCs anymore, I made the switch and I love it. Games run better for me.

I currently use Linux Mint but I might switch to just plain Debian (or Linux Mint Debian Edition once they release LMDE6 which will be based off Debian Bookwork).
