They donate their wealth to avoid taxes. Basically their families control the foundations, they donate and avoid a whole shit ton of taxes their next of kin get the money from the foundation.

Adam Conover did a video on it.

I've never understood the idea of being mad about what another industry is making. They make more money than you? Great go put in an application. Don't want to work in that industry? Then maybe they deserve the better pay. If you truly think you are that superior to the other industry then use their pay to bargain at your own job.

If you're a nurse who's working long hours at a job that requires an education and you're getting paid the same as a McDonald's cook, don't be mad at the cook, be mad at your employer. Go to them and demand a raise, and say I could work there for the same pay, spend more time with my family and not be responsible for keeping people alive. Pay me or I'm going to peace out.

To be fair there is bliss in ignorance. You can happily go about your life without a care right up till the repercussions force themselves upon you. For example, climate change. People made billions of dollars without considering the environment blissfully, and they will continue right up to the point that the air is unbreathable and the water is undrinkable. There is no bliss in realizing your demise, but to the ignorant these heatwaves are just a justification for their decision to buy a boat.

Two questions.

  1. How many total 12 points words is the surface of the Atlantic?

  2. How many words a second are we gaining due to rising sea levels?

"Also, due to a binding endorsement contract that stipulates I mention Powerade at each grace, I just want to say that Powerade is delicious and it cools you off on a hot summer day. And we look forward to Powerade’s release of Mystic Mountain Blueberry. Thank you for all your power and your grace, dear baby God. Amen."

I'm really just a data nerd who also likes working on cars. I often find excuses to make unnecessarily over complex spreadsheets, this one is just actually useful.

Man I used to be a fan of plutonium and uranium back when they were just getting discovered, but then everyone started to hear about them and they exploded on to the scene and became mainstream. Now they're so refined they make me sick.

I do like elements of what's being made nowadays, and how they're so much heavier, but they're just so synthetic and I don't see them hanging around very long.

excel

spreadsheet

I use an excel spreadsheet that I made. I use conditional formatting to tell me when I need to change something of at least check it. If you're interested in making your own just ask if you have any questions

I used to slip in to a bit where I was sarcastically a character that took on beliefs basically the exact opposite of my own. I would make sexist or lightly racist (stereotype) jokes that I didn't actually believe but thought were funny. The jokes were ofter at the expense of myself or people like me but involved bringing up other races, sexes, and ethnicities.

I made an effort to stop doing this for a couple reasons. The first being that idk if I'm really good or really bad at sarcasm but a lot of people just wouldn't get my joke and I was afraid people actually believed that was who I was.

Secondly, I had a kid. I realized that she parrots everything I say and do, and she wouldn't understand the layers of the joke and could potentially become what I was making fun of.

I listen to a lot of comedians in podcast and I envy their ability to slip in and out of bits with other comedians knowing they all get it, but for now I make an effort to end that bit.

Reddit refuge here. I'm super sad to see people trying to turn lemmy into reddit, this is our chance to make it better. Stop filling the new feed with reddit archive bullshit.

Secondly, I'm fine with the porn. I miss scrolling r/all and getting the surprise boob. Surprise boobs are the best.

Although I will say the furry community on lemmy is fierce. I've blocked like 40 communities and I'm still getting dog dicks in my feed. How many different communities do you people need?

I don't really see how it's click baity. Click bait implies that it's lying or exaggerating something, and that thumbnail is basically spot on. You click that link and you get exactly what you expected.
