I understand that too much debt is bad, but you have to spend money to make money. Many of the biggest cash-cows have been government funded research at some point (computers, chips, laser, atomic energy, internet)
I wish there was a more science based approach to policy instead of just going with unchecked/unreflected biases (i.g. "debt is bad")
