which in no way nullifies the overwhelming figures seen in the us.

wow, that one in russia was just a few weeks ago. it’s crazy to me how that event could be inspiring enough to motivate someone in a different country. no target of vengeance or grandiose idealism necessary.

tbh america and domestic mass shootings are pretty much synonymous at this point. this time (this one rare time) an immediate association with the us seems appropriate.

love your come/pepsi metaphor. i think it was a piece in the atlantic not too long ago comparing desantis to sweet-n-low and trump to high-fructose corn syrup. but that was describing him at his peak. if memory serves that was just before one of his staffers was publicly fired as the fall guy for a neonazi pro-desantis clip that went viral. right around the puddingfingers incident but before he decided to single-handed bring down disney. he has fallen so far so fast.

it will be interesting to see how haley fares in this. i have some of those “old republicans” in my family who hope haley will wind back the party’s clock pre-trump. a nice fantasy. i do wonder how large that demographic is. she is pulling in koch support so there are big players trying to move some pieces. but i certainly don’t see it actually happening.

i definitely get the sense that this is going to be a vicious and chaotic election cycle no matter how it plays out.

six months ago i was worried. now he’s just the punchline.

yeah, i get it. i thought to recommend you follow that read up with Practicing Peace in Times of War by Pema Chodron. essentially a brief collection of timeless, distilled wisdoms. a listen through the audiobook usually helps me reground.

it would be an incredibly poor decision for US to invade israel. our heavy hand in this situation has already done enough damage. tbh no matter what happens from here, the seeds of violence, resentment and revenge planted deep within the remaining youthful population will ensure the cycle persists. just as we are seeing now, the oppressed, when given the opportunity to become the oppressor, will often feel justified in doing so. i don’t have answers but it’s pretty obvious that Netanyahu’s long established iron-fist policy in regards to the treatment of palestinians is and has always amounted to a powder keg. i am ashamed at my country (also US) for many things, but our mixed messaging, ignorant elevation of the zionist ideology and luke warm action (at best) on preventing the mass slaughter of innocent human beings has elevated that shame to disgust.

Never has a description of the experience of consuming blue cheese felt more accurate.

so many headlines about nethanyahu’s outrage over the lack of uprising of the international community in response to allegations of rape by hamas. thing is, there were eyewitness reports of and allegations of rape beginning on the day of the attack. of course if true, beyond unacceptable, but the world was already full well aware. just fits in line with israel’s track record of recycling talking points to boost outrage.

i have nothing against followers of judaism, but israel is clearly a ticking time bomb and should be handled as such.
