I did exactly this. I happened to wake up right before the start, turned it on, watched the crash, and by the time the race restarted I had fallen asleep and I never bothered watching the rest.
As someone who does a significant amount of Motorsport photography, albeit at a smaller scale, this is a risk we’re all aware of. I don’t think any of us would trade it for the world either. Sometimes to get the shot, you’ve gotta put yourself in a bit of danger. Everyone did everything right here, Motorsport is just dangerous.
On a flat screen it’s entirely different since you’re only getting a single perspective instead of two different views. It’s one of the reasons VR can be really great in racing games such as iRacing.
I also turn off the halo when I’m playing on my triples. It’s only when I’m in VR that I’ll leave it on.
Just like your nose, stereoscopic (I think that’s the right word) vision will blur out things right in the middle of your view. It’s actually not very distracting at all and you tend to not notice it at all when driving (at least in VR in racing sims).
You also find yourself looking straight down the middle so infrequently that putting the supports to the side would actually block more of the view.
I’m not sure either, but he’s at the very least earned a shot, and tbh I don’t see any better options right now. A 1+1 would be minimal risk.
I’d like to see Yuki given a 1 year with RBR just to see what would happen. Even if he’s a complete wash, he gets his chance to prove himself, he’s experienced enough it’s not just putting a rookie in the seat and it gives the 2nd RBR seat back to someone who came through their academy.
That being said, I almost expect 2 rookies at Torro Rosso next year. Lawson and whoever performs best in F2.
Money has been the issue since day 1 and anyone believing anything else has been burying their heads in the sand. A new team is not going to bring anymore meaningful revenue to the series. I think we can all agree on that. That means if a new team enters and is entitled to equal benefits, the payouts for all 10 other teams go down by 10%. That’s a non-insignificant amount of money that they’re in no way willing to give up.
Any series that has independent development and no BoP is going to be uncompetitive at the front. Someone is always going to either spend more money or find a trick that sets them apart from the rest of the field.
Adding a BoP would kill the sport as we know it, and restricting development even more would be bad as well. F1 is the last true open development series. The rest all died for similar reasons.
I’m not a fan, but I’m generally not a fan of mclaren special liveries. It may look way better on track and I could just be really wrong.
It’s only easier than windows if you’re used to using and fixing Linux. Windows doesn’t require maintenance and troubleshooting for the most part. If something doesn’t work, you just restart and 99% of the time it does.
I’ll add a few more
Lightroom doesn’t work at all, needing either a reboot to launch windows or a VM that struggles with performance. OSS alternatives won’t really handle the size of libraries im working with from limited experience with them.
Multiple displays of different resolutions and refresh rates wouldn’t work properly (though I hear this one is becoming less of an issue with the new DE software)
