I am interested to help out. Can provide coverage for Europe and quality control for the physics part. (I'm a nightowl, though, so I am actually more in sync with New York)

(shameless advertisement, please contribute, I am still (almost) the only person making posts and I am starting to run out of good memes for either)
Agreed for anyone but the closest of friends.
But I figured, they must already be good friends, when the follow-up question to the first "No" played out as pictured and actually wasn't the socially standardized and personally dreaded: "Oh, what's wrong? Tell me everything right now!"
Idk... but I'd probably grant silent back2back leaning permission to anyone being that considerate.
That's why I genuinely liked the Team Fortress 2 cast. They're also caricatures, but at least they got a variety of madness spread across them.
Alternatively, my Autism side enjoys (silent) company for a different reason. Just the feeling of someone being there is kinda soothing, provided they understand that conversation really is optional in that situation.
Shot in the dark, not a doctor yadda yadda
Sounds like it could be burnout. (not only workaholics can get one) You can try some mitigation strategies for that and see if they help you.
Literal emergencies will fall into that category as well, but it is broader than just the stuff ER-people do for a living.
These are things like:
- being able to go from asleep to ready and out the door in under 5 minutes if the reason to do so is important enough.
- remaining calm and levelheaded when everyone around is panicking over something.
- deciding on a strategy and executing it flawlessly in response to any sudden change.
- and yes, doing homework last minute and still getting acceptable grades for it also counts.
Basically, if you get into a mental state of immediate urgency, your executive function runs on adrenaline alone. And suddenly you're better than ever before at just. getting. stuff. done. - but not for very long.
It's "common" traits. Not "must have" traits. or is the confusion about interpreting what a "crisis situation/emergency" is in this context?
Sounds similar to my approach when I began researching about autism. But back then I was already in therapy. And all they really did was nod and agree with my analysis. 😅
Good luck in finding a competent specialist. Because I know a few people that didn't go down the wrong rabbit hole by themselves - they were thrown in by "experts".
Just two things to consider: A deflection attempt at scale would generate much more debris. And peppering the atmosphere with hundreds of 15kT impactors over the course of minutes will still heat most surfaces with line of sight to the event(s) above their flash point, because you have just optimized the conversion from kinetic to radiative thermal energy.
(I blame CGI for notoriously underselling the brightness of meteors)
